Cholesterol Numbers And "Statin" Drugs

I believe that one of the drawbacks to the information age lies in the amount of information that streams by us on the fringes of our attention. To be able to pick out the specifics from the huge amount of background noise is no small task.

So it is with statins. To me, this is one of those subjects that I hear a lot about in other contexts and so I think I know something about it. But, in truth, I really don't. So, if you are as unsure as I as to what statins are and why we should even care, please read on.

At the most basic, statins are a family of chemical substances that blocks an enzyme that the body needs to produce cholesterol. When statins are present in the system, the amount of LDL ("bad") is reduced.

Because of this property, statins and statin combination drugs are often prescribed by doctors for patients who have high amounts of cholesterol in their bloodstreams. Statins are available under many different brand names. Some of the more popular are Lipitor, Crestor, and Zocor.

In many medical studies, statin drugs have been shown to lower the overall risk of heart attacks and strokes for people who take them on a regular, prescribed basis to deal with high cholesterol levels.

Compared with other treatments, statin cholesterol lowering therapies decrease the advance of coronary artery disease much more effectively. In one study, for example, participants who had recently experienced heart attacks were given cholesterol lowering drugs in much higher doses than is usual and subsequently had many fewer strokes and heart attacks. Studies like this one suggest that concentrated statin therapy does save lives. As a result, the U.S. National Cholesterol Education Panel revised their guidelines to include statin treatments that were more intense as an option for patients considered to have a moderate to high risk of heart attacks.

There are now newer statin drugs available that can do even more to reduce the risks. These include atorvastatin (marketed as Caduet and Lipitor) and simvastatin (marketed as Zocor). These newer drugs can lower LDL cholesterol by as much as 55%, increase HDL cholesterol up to 15% and reduce triglycerides by up to 30%.

Statin drugs are not known to cause side effects for most people who take them. However, possible side effects are:

Fatigue
Upset Stomach
Gas and/or constipation
Cramps or stomach pain
Minor muscle ache

These side effects become more likely when higher doses are prescribed but are rarely, if ever, debilitating.

As is the case with any drug, statins may interact with other medications you are taking so be sure to keep your doctor up to date on all medications.

So that is a quick overview of statins and why we should care about them. As a class of drug, statins are extremely valuable in controlling cholesterol levels and prolonging life.

"Worst Case" Households Growing in Numbers Nationwide

Low-income households finding themselves in "worst case" situations have grown significantly from 2007 and even more precipitously since 2001, showing the pressing need for affordable housing in communities around the country.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development released a report to Congress that attempted to paint the picture of affordable housing needs in the U.S. Worst case housing needs were defined as low-income households who paid more than half their monthly income toward rent, lived in housing that was of severely poor quality, or both. Additionally, these households did not receive government housing assistance. According to the report, the number of households falling into that standard grew by 1.2 million - more than 20 percent - from 2007 to 2009. There were 7.1 million households that met the worst case standard in 2009, an increase of 42 percent from 2001.

The report analyzed data from the HUD's American Community Survey conducted between May and December 2009, showing that the economic recession increased unemployment, hurt household incomes and put additional financial pressure on those renting affordable apartments.

"The report shows a clear link between unemployment and housing needs and that's why the president has been so focused on creating jobs," said HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan. "A growing economy and new jobs, combined with HUD's new commitments to produce and preserve affordable rental housing is what we need to reverse this trend."

These needs also crossed racial and social divides, with each ethnic group experiencing increases in worst case housing needs from 2007 to 2009. The report also showed a dearth of available affordable apartments, mainly because a lack of rental construction has left many higher-income tenants also competing for cheap apartments. That's left only 36 percent of low-income renters able to find affordable apartments.

"The loss of income and the general lack of affordable housing are clearly putting a lot of stress on unassisted families at the lower end of the income spectrum," Dr. Raphael Bostic, HUD's Assistant Secretary for Policy Development and Research. "It's equally clear that had it not been for housing assistance offered by HUD, the economic impact on very low-income renters would have been greater still."

Some government programs are helping communities close their affordable housing gaps - 25 percent of very poor U.S. households receive rental assistance, said the report. Additionally, several programs have rehabilitated thousands of cheap apartments nationwide and introduced different initiatives to provide more housing.

On the plus side, apartment construction is expected to increase in 2011, according to the National Association of Home Builders, which could make more cheap apartments available to rent.

Women Start Businesses in Record Numbers in 2009

The United States has produced many women making it to the top and becoming successful leaders. This is despite the fact that the environment these women grew up in might not have facilitated their direct access to the business world or provided these women role models in which to emulate. Nevertheless, many women have managed to learn enough about conducting a business and leading a team through education and mentoring.

Although in most cases women are still the ones who manage the household and would not normally have the time that running a business requires, many have set their priorities straight and have successfully entered the business world. Recent statistics show that women are starting businesses in record numbers and bringing significant changes to an environment which, not too long ago, seemed to be structured primarily for men and their ways of thinking and working.

Until recently, very few women have managed to succeed as business leaders. Be it for the disturbing lack of flexibility, men's solidarity in business or women's lack of confidence in their skills and abilities as leaders, the reality is that not many women have succeeded to in leadership roles. Moreover, in the absence of any grants from government agencies, women have to turn to private and non-profit organizations for assistance in starting a business. And, unfortunately, such grants often address minority women or women that come from economically disadvantaged communities. In spite of a nationwide network of programs and centers that offer business training, assistance and educational resources specifically for women, the actual business opportunities women are presented with are not too numerous.

Despite all these major drawbacks, what we are witnessing today in the business world is something that many would consider surprising, to say the least. Things are changing and evolving rapidly to an unprecedented presence for women in the business environment. Statistics show that over 23 million people in the United States (approximately 16% of the workforce) are now employed by women-owned businesses. This is almost double the number of employees that the biggest fifty companies in the U.S. have altogether. In addition to this, women-owned businesses generate $3 trillion in revenue and are tantamount to the fifth-largest gross domestic product on a global scale.

The first question that comes to mind is "Why are women starting their own businesses?" The most obvious reason would have to be "Because they want to be financially independent." We all know that depending on someone else for everything you need, from the food you put on the table and the clothes you wear to going on vacation or buying gifts for the holidays can be frustrating at times. All women feel the need to indulge themselves on their whims every now and then, and not all of them have the chance to do so, as long as they depend on someone else for money.

Of course, it's not a question of housewife versus business leader. Women are now almost half of the nation's workforce, which means that most of them have a steady income source and are able to provide for themselves and their families. But this is not the kind of financial independence I'm talking about. I am referring to the cashflow that a profitable business can generate, to no longer depending on a monthly paycheck and to not being forced to give up on many of your wishes and ideals. And if we take into account the fact that a woman's average salary is around 75 percent of that of a man's, it makes all the more sense for women to consider owning a business.

Could it be that women business owners saw a challenge in starting their own businesses and being successful like so many men before them? This too is a plausible reason. Now that equality between sexes is no longer an issue (except for maybe some remote parts of the world), women have the opportunity to prove that they are just as capable as men when it comes to setting up and fueling the growth of a profitable business. Many have succeeded and a lot more are attempting to.

Flexibility at their workplace and family-friendly benefits are yet another reason why women are considering business ownership. It is very difficult for a working mom to find the perfect balance between family life and career. Very few companies allow for family leaves or sick days, and even fewer provide their employees with high quality childcare. It is only natural that women try to relieve these burdens and attempt to set up an environment where such benefits would no longer be an issue. Given the minuses of the current employment market, it is safe to say that many women have chosen to start a business as a lifestyle choice. Everyone would like to have the flexibility that comes with being self-employed. Under these circumstances, there is little wonder why the number of women-owned businesses has seen such an astounding growth over recent years.

As I stated earlier, most women are the managers of their household and families. Statistics show that approximately three quarters of the decisions regarding purchases for the household are made by women. And in most cases, they do a great job managing everything around the house. Many women have decided to take a step forward and use this innate talent or acquired skill of juggling multiple tasks simultaneously, with the purpose of running a business of their own. The number of women starting businesses nowadays is almost three times the rate of men. Whatever the reasons for this growth may be, I am certain of one thing-we should all welcome this rise in the number of women-owned businesses for several reasons.

For one, women are more oriented towards communication than men and more likely to build stronger relationships with everyone around them, including the people they work with. Women feel the need to be part of a community more than men do, and a working community led by a woman is therefore more likely to be based on friendship and support.

Moreover, in most cases, women-owned businesses are closer to the kind of company that respects its employees' needs. All the benefits I was mentioned earlier (sick leaves, daycare and family leaves) are more likely to be found in women-owned businesses.

All in all, not everyone might think that the days of women as housewives are long gone, but the statistics beg to differ. Women start businesses in such record numbers that it is safe to say that women-owned businesses will play a major part in the recovery of the economy.

Paper Shredder Waste Sizes - What the Numbers Mean

If you are contemplating the purchase of a paper shredder, one of the key choices you must make is the security level or shred size. So how do you make the choice? Here are a couple guidelines that have served us well over the years.

First, use the largest shred size that will meet the security requirement. Models with larger shred sizes are more durable and offer more capacity for less cost.

Second, there is security in volume. If your volume is heavy, you might consider a larger shred size. It is a more difficult task to reconstruct one-thousand pages than it is to reconstruct ten pages. Another helpful tool is the international destruction standard known as DIN 32 757 (Deutsche Industrial Norm). Shredder manufacturers are now listing six levels of shred sizes, but only five are actually part of the DIN Standard. The reason these are important is because they are observed by all of the major shredder manufacturers. The international standards are used in the marketing of this equipment and are now a significant part of the government procurement process. Let's review these different levels.

Security Level 1 and 2 are strip shred requirements. Documents are cut into strips the length of the paper. These are the lowest security levels. Level 1 is a strip shred of ½" or smaller. Level 2 is a strip shred of ¼" or less. Strip shredders have become less popular in recent years as security concerns have increased.

Security Levels 3, 4, and 5 are produced by crosscut shredders. These shredders cut in two directions and produce confetti of various sizes. Security Level 3 is considered a medium security level and a fairly large crosscut particle measuring 3/16" X 3" or less. Security Level 4 is a medium-high security particle measuring 3/32" X 5/8" or less. Level 3 is adequate to meet most unclassified government applications. But if you have doubts, move up to Level 4.

Security Level 5 is a high security particle measuring 1/32" X ½" or less. This was the particle size used for classified documents until the US Intelligence Community changed the standard in 2003. If you move to a Level 5 model, you will notice a drastic reduction in capacity. It would be worth your time to take a few minutes to compare the cost and the capacity loss by going to this much smaller shred size.

Although the highest security level is now commonly being called Level 6 by manufacturers, there actually is no Level 6 DIN standard. If you need to shred classified documents, you are required to select a model listed on the National Security Agency's Evaluated Products List (EPL). The 1/32" X 7/32" (1mm X 5mm) or smaller particle is the current US standard for classified documents. The latest shredder EPL (as well as other types of destruction equipment) is listed on the NSA's Web site at: http://www.nsa.gov/ia/guidance/media_destruction_guidance/index.shtml

Miami Commercial Real Estate's Numbers Suggests Improvement Over the Years

When the reports came in, I was in shock. I never would have thought that with a market like we have right now, there is still some fight left for our Commercial real estate. The Commercial Leading Indicator for Brokerage Activity, a leading indicator for the commercial real estate market, has increased for six consecutive quarters, showing that continued growth can be expected in commercial real estate sectors, according to the National Association of Realtors. It is a good sign considering the struggle that the market is experiencing right now. In the third quarter, the Commercial Leading Indicator for Brokerage Activity rose 0.4 percent to a reading of 120.1 from an index of 119.6 in the second quarter, and is 2.9 percent higher than the third quarter of 2005 when it stood at 116.7. Which if anything is a good way to set example for the rest of the market.

The index is at the highest level in the series of the indicator, which goes back to 1990. Although we have a strong uptrend in the commercial sectors, the rise in the index over the last two quarters shows a lower rate of expansion in comparison with late 2005 and early 2006, This means that commercial sectors will continue to grow, but at a more modest pace. Growth in the index means net absorption of space in the industrial and office sectors will continue to improve over the next six to nine months, with rising completions of overall retail, office, warehouse and lodging structures.

The index incorporates 13 variables that reflect future commercial real estate activity, weighted appropriately to produce a single indicator of future market performance, and is designed to provide early signals of turning points between expansions and slowdowns in commercial real estate. The commercial lending indicator is a tool to assess market behavior in the major commercial real estate sectors. Which explain that this year will be on a strong holding stage and will have a good chance of having some critical changes.

Commercial real estate practitioners can anticipate leasing and sales activity in the first quarter to be approximately 2.9 percent higher than the first quarter of 2006. Net absorption in the office and industrial sectors in the first quarter of 2007 is expected to be 70 million to 90 million square feet, with about $315 billion to $325 billion in new, completed commercial construction activity, compared with $309 billion of new construction recorded in the third quarter. From previous year's numbers it explains how our market is reeling the investment fish. Miami will always be Miami and no matter how hard the market is, believe it will come as ni surprise how the Commercial real estate will pan out.

The Numbers of Pesticides Are Decreasing Rapidly As New EU Rules on Pesticides Come Into Force

UK farmers are becoming increasingly alarmed at the lack of alternatives for protecting their crops as the deadlines approach for implementing the EU Plant Protection Products Regulations that became law on December 14, 2009.

Member States are required to set up National Action Plans to reduce the effects of pesticide use on health and the environment and to promote the use of alternative methods to reduce pressure from pests. These plans are required to include quantitative objectives, targets, measures and timetables, and provide indicators to monitor the use of plant protection products containing active substances of particular concern. The action plans have to be presented to the Commission by December 2012, and will be revised every five years.

In 2009 UK Parliamentary investigations concluded that some 50 active substances that may lose approval. Most of these are approved in the UK. It warned that the bans could lead to significant increases in diseases affecting wheat, oilseed, potatoes and beet.

Farmers warned in 2009 that the ban on the use of key pesticides in European farming was going too far too fast and the situation does not seem to have improved, with the added pressure of cuts expected to the UK farmers' subsidies under reform of Europe's Common Agricultural Policy at the same time as farmers are being asked to produce more and invest more in the future.

Member States have to adopt the Directive's measures and comply with the requirements by 14 December 2011. National Action Plans must be completed by 14 December 2012.The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) carried out a first consultation on the issue, which has now been published and in its summary concludes that the UK's long-standing and rigorous regulatory regime for plant protection products (i.e. agricultural pesticides) and other already existing legal and voluntary controls, means it is in a good position regarding many of the areas covered by the Directive. Recent years have seen a reduction in the range and availability of pesticides, with increasing demands from supermarkets and consumers for no residues in food.

In December 2010 the results of research carried out by Cranfield University study were published. It found that without the deployment of pesticides to control weeds, pests and diseases, crop yields would fall to half their current levels. It said food prices would rise by 40 per cent and that crop protection saves UK consumers £70 billion in annual food costs.

The commission's proposals, it estimated, could remove 5-10% of insecticides, 5-12% of herbicides and 7-35% of fungicides. A range was decided on because of some gray areas about how certain hazard criteria would ultimately be defined.

Using the UK parliament's exclusion criteria, however, it said 66% of UK insecticides would be de-registered, 35-49% of fungicides and 27-33% herbicides. Once the five-year period for approval of candidates for substitution runs out those figures jumped to 92%, 80% and 91%.

There are low-chem alternatives being devised by biopesticides developers but the problem is that the resulting biopesticides, biofungicides and yield enhancers are subject to the same registration processes as conventional pesticides. Developers must file a comprehensive dossier, documenting all risk and safety issues.

It is not a harmonised process. The dossier is evaluated by a 'rapporteur' Member State and then considered by all Member States, the European Food Safety Authority and the European Commission (EC). If the active ingredient meets the specific standards, it is approved and listed in Annex I of the Directive. Plant protection products containing an active ingredient listed in Annex I are then authorised at a national level as long as acceptable use is proven, taking into consideration formulation, climatic and agronomic factors.

It is a cumbersome and lengthy, as well as expensive, process and so far calls to harmonise and speed it all up seem to have fallen on deaf ears.

As the deadlines for withdrawal of many current pesticides looms and farmers worry about the effects on their crop yields Ali Withers reports on the lengthy registration process involved in getting new biopesticides approved across the EU.

Method of Tracing Mobile Phone Caller Numbers

Tracking down the origination of cell phone caller number is difficult when compared to a landline or fixed line number. Moreover, mobile numbers are not listed like landline numbers in a specific directory which makes their tracing difficult, but not impossible. Earlier cell phone companies used to charge money to trace any specific cell number requested, but recent advances in technology made it possible to track them without any associated fees for tracing.

If you have the desire to find the caller, you can obtain it in the following manner.

Internet is the best place to trace incoming numbers to cell phones. You can start off with your own number on any reputed online search engine. The results of that search will certainly surprise you. You be amazed at the accurate information available on the net. Once you are satisfied with the outcome, you can type the number you want to track. The number you want to track may be listed somehow on many sites, with the owner placing it for some other purpose. This way you can track that number and be certain of the identification of the caller. This is the surest way to know about unlisted numbers. Their ignorance is our fortune and you can rest assured of the source of your caller.

If by typing the entire number along with the area code does not produce the result; you can delete the area code and look for the results. If this is also not successful, if you know the state to which this area code belongs, you can delete the area code and include the state code for results. By trial and error, you can get the desired results comfortably.

You can look into the online directories which may throw some light on the required mobile phone caller number. It is not guaranteed that you would get the required information, but at least you would get the cell company's name that provides the service to that cell number. You can contact that cell company about the possible billing address of the number.

In addition to these, you can also make use of the reverse identification mobile phone detective websites and mobile phone users "National Registry".

There are several reverse identification websites that offer facilities to track the origination of mobile caller numbers, some charge fee and some others do not. In my experience, by paying a small fee either as a membership for life or for a particular period, you can save time. These sites provide valid information worth the money spent on them. You can obtain complete information and then you will realize that the money spent was worthwhile. Some websites ask you to register by providing all your particulars without any fee, but send some advertisements or mails in return for free membership. It is advisable to join a reputed website that provides accurate information. This can be tested with your own number, upon satisfactory results; you can enlist in that website.

This way you can track any cell phone caller number and be assured of the person calling from the other side of the phone.

Are you SICK and TIRED with anonymous people harassing you over the phone? Do you want to track who is the caller? Click http://www.tracephonecall.com to instantly find out and trace the anonymous caller ID. I'm giving this access to the public today and tomorrow ONLY to anyone who visits my website. So visit my website now before tomorrow night and learn how you can trace a cell phone call

How To Pick Winning Lottery Numbers Using The Killer Strategies!

"How to pick winning lottery numbers" is a frequently asked question by most lottery players.

The next million dollar question is "is it really possible to pick winning numbers by using some strategies? Or the numbers are just so randomly picked that it is something so unpredictable?"

Majority of the lottery players play and buy lottery without a system or strategy. That is also why so many players ended up losing lots of money in lotteries. They just simply buy and simply lose! One of the strategies on how to pick winning lottery numbers is what commonly known as "hot and cold number" method. This method is where you can check out the regularly drawn numbers (known as "hot number") and buy those numbers for your entry. Some numbers, like "38" do appear more often than any other numbers for an unexplainable reason. Britain's National Lottery Commission released a report that stated since the number 38 popped up so many times, lotto games seemed not to be random.

On the other hand, "cold numbers" refer to numbers which are rarely drawn or have not been drawn for some time. Some people prefer to go for the "cold number" hoping that they will be drawn soon since they are lesser drawn. While this strategy is not a guaranteed way where you can predict what the next winning numbers will be, it does help in having a better guess on what are the "hot numbers" that might appear again in the next game.

There are a few types of wheel. A full wheel provides the most combination of numbers that you have chosen. As such, it gives you the highest chance to win the lottery. That is also why it is more expensive than the other types of lottery wheel.

Another wheel is called "abbreviated wheel". It gives you lesser set of numbers but one of the set is guaranteed to win. It is less costly than the full wheel.

The 3rd strategy on how to pick winning lottery numbers is by using a number generator which will help producing your personal lucky number based on the relation between numbers and other factors, like mystical, physical or any other living things.

This system combines items such as number of your first name, the total sum after adding up the numbers of your birth date, and generate a "lucky" number for you. Again, this is not a guaranteed system. But it is nice to have and fun to do. There are things that just beyond what our mind can apprehend or explainable by science.

The 4th strategy on how to pick winning lottery numbers is by using an established system. In this regard, the Silver Lotto System is the only system which enhances your chance of winning the lottery by eliminating the "bad" numbers. "Bad numbers" are numbers or sequences of numbers that never appear in a lotto game. By eliminating those "bad numbers", the system focuses on numbers that normally drawn. That has increased the rate of winning the lottery game to as high as 99%.

With the above strategies, you should now have a better idea on how to pick winning lottery numbers. This is an important tip on winning the lottery. Do it right and your chances to win big in lottery would be closer by!

RV Sales Numbers Show Steady Increase

RV sales numbers show a steady increase since January of 2010. It seems as if the recession is slowly receding. High-ticket items aren't selling in record numbers, but people are purchasing new and used RVs again. Summer is usually a high point in sales for RV dealers.

The travel trailer has taken in the industry by storm as many are looking for a cheaper alternative to RV travel, but more protection than a traditional tent. Those in their early twenties and thirties are driving the trend towards lightweight environmentally friendly vehicles.

While the younger generation is driving numbers up as far as travel trailers, baby boomers are pushing sales of higher ticket RVs such as Fifth Wheels and Class A RVs. As record numbers of the population are retiring, baby boomers are hitting the road in their new RVs and campers.

Also picking up interest this year are park model RVs. Park models basically provide many of the conveniences of home but offer the same access to the outdoors as an RV. A lot of families are using park models for trips when they don't have an RV, or want a little extra comfort and convenience on the road. The companies producing these models are growing as steadily as parks are purchasing them.

So where is everybody going? Yellowstone just announced record numbers for June visitation with over 700,000 visitors in one month. July is generally the busiest time of year for National Parks. The fee-free weekend incentives helped renew many a campers' love of their National Parks.

For those that are reconsidering vacations south to the Gulf Coast, there are websites that are keeping up-to-the-minute information on contaminated areas and oil-free zones. Before canceling your beach trip, contact the resort. Some places are giving a full refund if oil contaminates their beaches before or during your visit. There are still many incredible beach destinations to visit.

If the warm weather is pushing you to cooler climates, the mountains offer refuge from overwhelming heat waves. Snow is still apparent at higher elevations and wildflowers are blanketing fields and valleys. Places like Rocky Mountain National Park and Glacier National Park offer great mountain camping and cool evening air.

No matter your style of vehicle or destination, there is summer adventure awaiting you. The RVing industry has held strong for 100 years. Celebrate the centennial year of RVing by hitting the road and exploring with your new RV, Fifth Wheel Toy Hauler, Travel Trailer, Pop-up Camper or more.

A Quantitative View of America By the Numbers

According to the American Community Survey Briefs produced in 2009 the use of Public Transportation is going down in the US. More than 300,000 people found alternative means of transportation to commute to both work and school as opposed to public transportation data than in the year before. The majority of public transportation use was in large metropolitan cities, for instance New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia area, Public transportation use for commuting to both work and school was as high as 30%, as opposed to the nation average of 5%. Although the nation has not changed public transportation infrastructure dramatically in recent years less than 5 of the nation's 366 major metropolitan areas exceeded greater than 10% public transportation use for work. The three metropolitan areas that used the highest level of public transportation as their primary means to commute to work and school, over the age of 16 and not working at home, are New York, New Jersey, Long Island area followed by the Chicago, Mandeville, Gillette area and finally the Washington DC, Arlington, Alexandria area. Each of these major metropolitan areas has a population of over one million. Although there was little change in statistical data from 2008 to 2009, we can still see that as more people move to major metropolitan areas public transportation use rises. This small change in the statistical data from 2008 to 2009 is expected as the overall US population rises and our nation continues to grow.

Nationwide nearly 2 out of every 5 renters is considered burdened by housing cost, meaning that housing cost, as defined by the total average of utilities and rent combined, consumes more than 35 percent of their income. We come to this data on the Rental Housing Market Condition by sifting through the nation average which currently estimates that 34.13% of the total population is renting, and of that percentage 42.48% are considered burdened. The numbers from the nation's 50 most densely populated metropolitan demonstrate that there is a broad range of housing factors that affect each area's housing market and cannot be determined as a whole or singled down to a single societal factor. Of those top 50 metropolises, the one with the lowest percentage of renters was Minneapolis, St Paul, Bloomington area with just 25.57% of the population currently renting with 41.27% of those people considered burdened, leaving them with a 5.91% rental vacancy rate. The area with highest percentage of people renting was the Los Angeles, Long Beach, Santa Ana area with 49.27% of the population currently renting and a whopping 47.27% of those people are considered burdened leaving the city of angels with a 5.29% rental vacancy rate. From this data we can theorize that the rental market is getting more competitive as more people opt to rent rather buy their home. There is a direct relationship to the tighter housing regulations and recent failures of some of the nation's top mortgage banks. Luckily, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act has tasked the Obama Administration with developing a proposal for housing reform later this year which will including restructuring Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. It's expected that a cornerstone of this policy proposal will the ongoing promotion of rental housing. Although this is only a proposal it is a step towards change as America moves on into the next century.

Property Values continue to change as our economy attempts to recover. The property value as defined for this paper is what the current owner thinks the property would sell for if sold on the market today. All figures presented have been adjusted for inflation to the 2009 dollar value. As a national average, property values have dropped 5.8% over the last year but that's not to say that property values have dropped everywhere. Although the worst effected area's property values fell 34% in Mercad, CA some metropolitan area's values rose as high as 19.7% in the Hattiesburg, MS area. Of the 50 most populous metro area's with a decrease of at least 9% median property value, one out of every five was located in either California (6) or Florida (4), suggesting that beach front properties were the hardest hit. It is also noted that there is a vast difference in Median property values, regardless of change in perceived value, across the US. For instance, in the San Jose, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara area, the median property value is estimated to be $719,700 while the lowest median property value, of the top 50 again, was the Buffalo, Niagara Falls area with a median property value of just $116,000.

Through all of this we can assume a direct correlation between the economic situation and the percentage of people receiving Public Assistance in the Past 12 Months. Over 350,000 more people were approved for public assistance under Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) than the year before. These benefits do not include things like social security, food stamps and Medicaid. According to the 2009 data, the assistance participation rate was 2.6%, as defined by at least one person in the household received public assistance in the past twelve months. Fourteen states had participation rates even higher than the national average, while twenty one states had lower rates. Ten of the states with lower participation rates than the national average are located in the south and include Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Texas, Maryland, Virginia and Arkansas. Twenty states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia had an increase in the participation rate. The remaining states rate did not show a significant change from the year before. The state that had the highest increase was Ohio, with nearly 31,700 new recipients' from than the year before. Alaska had the smallest increase in participation rate with just 91 new recipients' in 2009. Rhode Island on the other hand actually had a decrease in rate with 1,722 less recipients'. All of this data is collected at the 90% confidence level so you can be rest assured it's comparably accurate to our best efforts.

International Reverse Phone Directory - Search International Numbers in Reverse Number Lookup Direct

Have you ever tried to find out who the owner is of an anonymous phone call placed from another country? It's a fairly easy process to discover the identity of a caller from your own country, but the directories that work so well with these numbers won't work when searching international phone numbers. If you have missed a mysterious phone call from another country, chances are you may already be familiar with the country's area code. The best method for getting to the bottom of international phone numbers is to make use of an international reverse phone number lookup directory.

The first thing to do when researching an unknown number that registers on your Caller ID is to identify whether the area code is local, national, or international. If you don't recognize the area code, you can simply enter that code into a search tool of any of the major search engines. Just type in something along the lines of "area code+country", and you should easily find out which country the call originated from.

Once you find out which country the call came from, you can start the process of doing a reverse phone number lookup. From this point you can try finding out who the number belongs to by going to that country's specific phone directory website. For example, if you have determined that your anonymous phone call originated from Canada, you can try to find out the identifying information behind that number at a Canadian phone directory site.

If the above method falls short, you can try one of the reverse phone number lookup directories for international numbers available online. Some of these sites are free and some are not. You can also try using Google or any of the other major search engines to find people by phone number in foreign countries. What you'll probably find, though, is that the free sites and search engines won't be able to produce the results you are looking for. So, if you still need to find out the owner's information behind that anonymous missed phone call, you'll have to use one of the paid sites to do your search. Fortunately, the cost is minimal and you can get your results almost instantly with one of the few reputable sites available online.

Toll Free Numbers - Why Does My Business Need One?

Since 1967, companies have used Toll Free numbers to provide a way for their clients and potential clients to call them at no charge. As the telecommunications and telecommunications hardware market has become more sophisticated, this service has taken on an expanded and altered role. We take a look at what businesses used this service for, what they use it for now, and why it is a tool your business cannot be without.

Let's first define Toll Free numbers:Toll-Free numbers are sometimes called "800 numbers" after the original area code which was used to dial them. They include the area codes 800, 888, 877, 866, 855 (although not yet in heavy use), 844, 833 and 822 (the last three are not yet active but reserved). Toll-Free numbers allow the owner of the number to pay the calling charges of the incoming calling party. Because the owner of the number is paying for the call, they are allowed to see the incoming Caller ID even if the calling party has Caller ID blocked.

When Toll-Free numbers came into existence in 1967, the average cost of long distance to the carriers was $0.24 per minute. (Equivalent in 1999 dollars to $1.21 per minute) They charged MUCH higher rates. That was for outbound long distance. Inbound Toll Free rates were typically higher. The main reasons to own a Toll Free number in the early years of the service were the following:

Used to help their major customers and suppliers avoid paying long distance charges and encourage them to make calls/increase sales
Created a larger company image
Ease of move of service if the business location moved (Local Number Portability was a BIG issue for local businesses who moved and wanted to keep their current phone numbers. If they only gave out the Toll Free number, moving was not an issue)

Companies originally did not flock to the service, but it caught on quick and increased every year. In 1967, over 7 million calls were recorded, and now there are over 30 billion annually. Around 1980, advances in AT&T's long distance network enabled businesses to use and promote a single nationwide toll-free number, instead of different numbers in different states.

Almost overnight it became smart business to include a toll-free number in national television or print advertising. The advertising fueled consumer awareness of toll-free numbers, which, over time, grew into an expectation that companies wanting business will provide a toll-free number. 40 years later, there are even more reasons to own a Toll Free number. In addition to customer convenience, local number portability and a prestigious company image, there are several new reasons to consider owning your own Toll Free number.

(Vanity Toll Free Numbers)Used for ease of remembering your business number and number. (Ex: 1-800-Flowers)
Used for advertising campaign tracking (Telephone carriers give you a monthly statement that shows the volume of calls per Toll Free number, the number that called, date, time, and where it was from. This information can prove to be invaluable when tracking the effectiveness of an advertising campaign such as radio, newspaper, yellow pages, television, or others.)
Businesses can be listed in the Nationwide Toll Free directory and easily found

Expand your marketing reach (Consumers and companies may not call an unfamiliar area code, but they will call a Toll Free number)

Advanced call routing (Route incoming Toll Free calls in several flexible ways, including geographic routing by exchange or area code, Time of Day routing, Day of Week Routing, Day of Year routing, Percentage Allocation Routing, All-Trunks-Busy Routing, Ring No Answer Routing, Emergency or Disaster Routing.

Given to employees or remote trainees/students to avoid higher cell phone charges and collect call charges for calls from the field.

With typical calling rates at $0.05 and under per minute available now, Toll Free numbers are now a cost effective tool for every business. If you are looking for a Vanity Toll Free number, check your favorite search engine for several sources.

If you are a company that does ANY advertising, how do you track it? Do you rely on your receptionist or secretary to ask every time "How did you hear about us?" Are you convinced that method works or is accurate? With a Toll Free phone number, you'll never wonder again if that yellow page ad you spend thousands of dollars on annually produces or not. With a different Toll Free number for your radio and television ads, you'll be able to track your ROI, and find out which methods do and do not work for you. Which time slots, which direct mail campaigns, which newspaper or magazine ads work for your company? Not knowing can cost you dearly. It's now the least expensive tool on the market to track exact results, and it may save your company thousands of dollars in wasted or ineffective ad campaigns.

Some nationwide carriers now offer business packages that include a Toll Free number, as well as bundled minutes at no additional cost. Some carriers include long distance minutes that can be used for either outbound long distance or inbound Toll Free service as part of their package. This may be a tool you already have access to at no cost, but just simply have not been using. Consult with your telecommunications professional to choose the right solution for you.

Dialing for Dollars: Memorable Phone Numbers Can Boost Sales for Small Businesses

Like most car dealerships, Maroone Honda of Hollywood, Fla., wanted to drive more business to its showroom floor. So the dealer added a catchy, easy-to-remember phone number to its ongoing print and radio ad campaign. Maroone was soon flooded with a thousand additional phone calls from prospective buyers each month and enough additional sales to make it one of the nation's top 10 Honda sellers.

"The reason we got this number is simple: If someone in the South Florida area wants a Honda, all they need to know or remember to call is 1 800 NEW HONDA," says general manager Bobby Yoxall. The company added the vanity number three years ago. "Other (local) dealers are just ticked off because they didn't think of it first," Yoxall says.

Easy-to-remember, toll-free numbers such as Maroone's are a "cash register" for businesses, especially "vanity numbers" using a word associated with the company or its service, says Judith Oppenheimer, an industry analyst and president of ICB Toll-Free Consultancy in New York. But with the pool of toll-free 800 numbers all but drained, and buying and selling phone numbers illegal, snagging a memorable number can be an exercise in futility. There are a few tricks that can help small businesses find a magic number, despite the competition.

Ringing the Cash Register

Vanity numbers such as 800-FLOWERS and 800 CALL ATT are known to generate a minimum of 40 percent more calls than non-memorable numbers, says Oppenheimer, who believes the average is much higher.

The pool of 800 numbers available to companies is fairly small at any given time. Telephone carriers have attempted to accommodate growing demand by introducing other toll-free prefixes. But those prefixes - 888, 877, 866 - typically produce less traffic. "Some will tell you that 877 and 866 are fine. They're not," Oppenheimer says.

Few studies have been done, but plenty of anecdotal evidence supports that claim. Oppenheimer points to a client that included its toll-free 877 number in a series of radio ads. It also owned the 800 version of the same number, but didn't include it in the ad. But the 800 number received more than twice the number of calls as the 877 number.

Why? Consumers tend to remember vanity numbers as "800," no matter what the prefix. "It's not whether you know that 888 or 877 are toll-free prefixes," Oppenheimer says. "It's whether those numbers have been branded in your mind in a way that gets you to respond." So when a company uses an 888 or other toll-free, non-800 prefix, many of its calls - perhaps 40 percent - end up going to whomever owns the 800 version of the number, which may very well be a competitor, she says.

There are other reasons to hold out for an 800 prefix. "Across the board, when people call a vanity number, they are raising their hand to buy," says Oppenheimer. "They are not tire kickers. When you're dialing a word, there's a different mind set and behavioral process." People are ready to buy at that point, she asserts.

Yoxall won't reveal how many more cars he's selling with the number. But the dealership has moved from the list of the nation's top 20 Honda dealers into the top 10 during the past three years. Yoxall attributes much of that success to adding an easy-to-remember phone number.

Shared Use

In 1997, the Federal Communications Commission ruled that buying and selling phone numbers is illegal and reinforced its edict last December. The thinking, in part, is that phone numbers themselves shouldn't be profit-generating commodities bought and sold on the open market. But while snagging your own 800 number may be next to impossible, sharing one is a much more likely, affordable and legal alternative.

Next page: Pick a number, any number.

Here's how it works: Companies typically receive a listing of all the phone numbers that dial their 800 number. If most of their business is done in a limited region, they may agree to share their number with another company outside their region. The phone company configures things so that incoming calls are detected by area code and routed to the proper company.

It's the same technology used by big players like Pizza Hut to route customers to the nearest store when they call 800 PIZZA HUT. So the recycling outfit in New Jersey, which receives mostly local calls, can share with the surf shop in Los Angeles that sells on the West Coast and the boot maker in Dallas, all of whom need the same digits to spell out their vanity number.

Maroone Honda shares its number with Honda dealers in other parts of Florida that don't compete for the same buyers. How much should a company pay for the luxury? The price can be very reasonable, Oppenheimer says. "You could pay anywhere from about $40 to $200 per month," she says. "Or the company that owns the number might charge by the minute or $1 per call." They'll typically charge a little more than they pay per call, on top of a monthly fee.

Small businesses can start their quest by contacting a company specializing in making these number-sharing matches, such as Dial800 and Response Marketing, which set up the arrangement and then allow customers to track the number of calls, peak traffic times and other data online. Or simply call the number you want and bargain with the current owner, Oppenheimer says.

If all else fails, a local vanity number might be appropriate. If you have a pizzeria in New York and most of your business comes from the 212 area code, (212) JOES PIZZA could be a profitable phone number.

Another option for some businesses might include snagging a number with easy-to-remember digits, such as 654-4321. The most obvious easy-to-recall numbers are likely taken, but they're worth asking for, Oppenheimer says. It's in the phone carriers' best interest to make business clients happy.

Hide Your Cards

In either case, don't tip your hand, Oppenheimer says. Phone companies have been known to reserve such numbers for larger corporations with huge advertising budgets. They know the number will likely generate more traffic and thus, bigger profits for the phone carrier itself. Revealing the actual vanity number, whether local or not, may tip the phone company off that this is a good number for another business.

"Never ask them for a vanity number. Tell them the actual number you want (using numeric digits)," Oppenheimer says. And if AT&T says it doesn't have the number, go to MCI, Sprint or other carriers, including wireless and cable telephone providers.

What's considered a good number? The vanity number should reflect the company's brand name, if it's well known, or otherwise, the product or service itself. And numbers of more than seven digits after the 800 prefix won't work from cell phones.

The Gulf Declaration and the Analogy of It's Numbers!

Name: The Gulf Declaration

Petitioners to Date: 9,135

America's full energy independence date: July 4, 2020

There is a new declaration being petitioned in the world - The Gulf Declaration. This declaration addresses the Gulf oil spill and the efforts to clean up and repair the brutal damage done to the environment. This disaster holds the potential to catalyze one of the greatest transformations our nation has known, while at the same time forcing the world to come out its self-induced coma and our dependence on oil. This disaster has finally illuminated our addiction to a type of insidious disease. That being said, let's analyze for a moment, the impact of the numbers on this declaration and the numbers surrounding it.

THE NAME ANALYSIS

The name 'The Gulf Declaration' reflects drive, a pioneering spirit, leadership, independence and originality. The energy behind this name is strong and forceful and promotes an unconventional, innovative, and decisive approach. Just look at the names of the spiritual and visionary leaders such as Deepak Chopra and Jack Canfield who are leading the way.

Highly focused and self-reliant, the name The Gulf Declaration carries with it an unmistakable "can do" attitude. It reflects confidence, energy, strength and perseverance. There is a definite sense of danger and risk-taking as well with this name, as it does not inspire patience and sensitivity, and does not promote cooperation or a diplomatic approach to problem solving. Therefore, it will take a global effort as there will be much opposition. This name is masculine in nature - an aggressive, creative and forceful name. Just look at all the people behind it's creation and the volatile nature of it's intended actions.

The positive characteristics of this name lend itself to strength, originality, courage, imagination, creativity and confidence that the time is now right. This is a good name for competitive, high-risk ventures - which this definitely is.

THE ANALOGY OF THE NAME

The Name The Gulf Declaration comes to 10/1

THE NUMBER 10

* 10 is a double digit number that is the instant manifestation of the 1

* The number 10 represents instant karma

* 10 is associated with the Wheel of Fortune

What this means is that a 10 number vibration is a time for a turn for the better! This name implies that it is a time of good fortune and good luck! What we have been waiting for, will arrive - and not a moment too soon. This is an initiation period which will require the world to make hard decisions - decisions that had to be made upon cold, hard facts and a disaster of epic proportions!

THE NUMBER 1

* New beginnings

* Leaders and leadership come under the number 1

* 1 is the independent number, and the ability to think independently

* 1 is the number of originality

* 1 says "I am free"

* The number 1 belongs to pioneers and those with a pioneering spirit or attitude

What this means is that a number 1 vibration provides new beginnings and independence from our past. It is a period when we will begin anew with our environment. We have the opportunity to separate ourselves from previous conditions, and choose an alternative future course.

JULY 4, 2020 IS A 15/6

This is a double digit number which, by July 4, 2020 will require us to release ourselves from the bondage of oil dependence. We simply have to free ourselves from past mistakes. Long held views are going to have to change and this won't be easy - even by 2020 - for there will always be people who will want to hold onto the past for selfish and economic reasons and fear! However, this declaration is the stepping stone that has already begun to provide new found beliefs, that 10 years from now will set us free and hopefully --> eradicate the fear of giving up oil for something so much better for the planet. The 15/6 vibration will help us accept our own past indulgences and weaknesses, and will help us to look beyond the limitations of our circumstances. By accepting our foibles, we can as a nation and a world, bring about peaceful and satisfying solutions. The 15/6 provides healing through spiritual understanding. Look again at all the spiritual healers who are behind this movement.

THE NUMBER 6

6 is the number of creative solutions and putting the needs of others first. Our world is our frontier and the vibration of the 6 gifts us with unlimited potential to find creative solutions to our energy issues. Our challenge will be to make these solutions last and stand the test of time.

2020COMES TO A 4

Symbolically 4, is the square. Imagine a square window through which we can see and visualize change. 4 is the creative builder, who puts form and structure to life. 4 brings practicality, stability and a need to define and order things. During a 4 period, reason has the tenancy to reign, so under this vibration, foundations that were built up (oil rigs) will fade away. A 4 period can and will provide insight and efforts from individuals who are capable of producing operations which will produce valuable products from the earth. This means that more natural resources will be abundant to provide alternative energy sources.

9,135 PETITIONERS TO DATE

This number comes to the double digit number of 18/9 - Of course this number will increase daily over time. However, as a numerologist, I felt compelled to do the math on this number as of today. The number 18/9 vibration represents a time of healing and forces us to pay more attention to the body and health. This makes so much sense, for if we don't do something about our environment NOW, it will affect our body and our health with very negative consequences.

THE NUMBER 9

Represents endings and is a time to finish up all unfinished business. 9 is also is the number associated with the humanitarian.
