Home Data Entry - Immeasurable Jobs

The common goal of all establishments now, either small or big, is the call to have a staying power and to have updated business information or else it would be difficult to participate and keep it active in the market. In order to have a better knowledge, it is very vital to have a deeper perception of clients and the factors affecting the society. For this reason, data entry though, not the main business is very significant due to the fact that it is essential for every business to succeed.

Several companies have come up a solution to the need of this job. It varies from simple to complicated ones and the need is continuous. That is why it is very in demand and considered tough despite the global crisis. Even if it is only outsourced to other countries for a low-priced labor, there is still a continuous demand for the job in the country.

There are numerous jobs available in the internet like making product catalogs, reformatting of documents, medical records and insurance claim entry, indexing of documents, scanning of documents, data mining, data scrubbing, transcription, updating of client information and surveys online. You do not have to be fast in typing to land a job. But, if your work will depend on the number of words or lines you could produce per day like in transcription, then high-speed typing is very important. The average typing speed is 45 to 50 words per minute. Be patient if you are slow at the beginning, sooner or later it will improve somehow. If you are just starting in this business, do not expect to earn big.

To have a good start in working from home, it is highly recommended that you enroll in a training program. This is a program that will hone your clerical skills and will be directed on ways to start your own business at home. It will also show you some business techniques in order to avoid scams that are scattered in the internet so that your business will stay longer and will make profits for you. The program I have been talking about is the National Data Entry. This is a genuine program that will provide tutorial to those who are interested to earn big despite the crisis today. It has been serving people since 2006.

5 Steps for a Good Night's Sleep

Let me see if this accurately describes how you slept last night. You're exhausted from a long day of work. During the last 16 hours you've dealt with:

o The morning rush hour to work.

o The mental and physical stresses at work.

o The return trip back home hoping for sanctuary only to be confronted with the physical and emotional challenges of managing a household.

All the while your mind is going through the mental gymnastics of what you still need to finish today while getting prepared for the events in tomorrow's schedule. The news is over, it's bedtime, you need a good night's sleep, and you say to yourself, "Please Lord, just one good night's sleep!" So you turn off the lights, get into bed, and lay your head down on the pillow only to lie awake. All of a sudden that distressing wave of anxiety that has become your constant nighttime companion says to you, "We've got to get some sleep or we'll never function tomorrow!" Finally, just before the alarm clock goes off, you fall asleep only to be awoken by the constant buzz of the alarm reminding you that you're exhausted but work and family commitments won't allow you to stay in bed.

You drag yourself into the shower, pump your body with caffeine, get dressed and repeat the days' events all over again.

"Nah' Dan, I just lay my head down and I'm out like a light until that alarm goes off!"

Men and Women and Sleep!

The little scenario above has two different sleep outcomes, and if I were sitting next to you as you read them, 75% of the men would agree with the last statement in quotes and 75% of the women would relate to the bullet points and paragraph. According to a recent National Sleep Foundation survey, 75% of women between the ages of 30 and 60 do not get eight or more hours of sleep. They get approximately 6 ½ hours of sleep per night during the workweek. This also applies to older women. Again, in a poll sponsored by the National Sleep Foundation, older women reported more often than older men that the quality of their sleep had declined over the past ten years of their life.

Sleep Loss Affects All Aspects of Your Life!

The amount of sleep you get can have a direct affect on your health. Here are some statistics to confirm this last statement:

o Research shows that sleep deprivation may increase blood pressure. A recent study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine correlated chronic sleep loss with an increased risk of heart disease. Specifically, women between the ages of 45 and 65 who slept an average of five hours or less per night were 39% more likely to have heart problems than women who slept eight hours per night.

o Research from the Journal of the American Medical Association has suggested that sleep loss increases hunger while decreasing the body's metabolism. That is not a winning combination for weight management or weight loss but is a recipe for weight gain.

o It has been shown that sleep loss also interferes with the body's ability to metabolize carbohydrates resulting in high levels of blood glucose. This, in turn, promotes the overproduction of insulin which could play a significant role in adult-onset diabetes.

o A recent National Sleep Foundation poll found that 51% of women say that their sleep problems affect their ability to perform daily activities, 46% reported interference with carrying out household duties, 27% reported interference with their job performance, and a significantly large percentage (66%) felt that lack of sleep caused problems with family relationships.

o Lack of sleep can decrease the effectiveness of your immune system and lead to premature aging.

Proper Sleep Can Be A Complex Problem!

Getting a good night of deep, restful sleep is important. Not just for you but also for all the people around you. Many people are resorting to over-the-counter medications, as well as prescriptions from their physicians, to help aid them in their search for meaningful sleep. It's important to remember that every drug you put into your body has an affect on the health of your liver which, in turn, has an overall affect on your wellness and aging. If you haven't gone the medication route to help with your sleep, then you might want to try the following steps to aid you in a good night's sleep. If you're on medication, then certainly continue unless you and your doctor feel that it is time to reduce your dependence on the medication and help you find a natural solution for achieving restful, deep sleep.

5 Natural Steps to Deeper, More Restful Sleep!

These are steps you can take to help you achieve your goal of a better night's sleep. My suggestion is to read each step and then decide which one best fits for you. Don't try all of them but start with one step and then add a second step if it doesn't give you the kind of sleep you're looking for. Unlike medication, none of these steps will interfere with each other but it is always best to start with just one. Whichever one you decide to start with, give it a good week to evaluate the results.

Step 1 - Your Partner!

If you're single and live alone then this step won't apply to you unless your dog or cat is sharing your bed. If they're keeping you awake at night, then it's time to find them their own soft cushion and place on the floor or in another room. Now, if it's your sleep partner who snores, tosses and turns, repeatedly gets up and goes to the bathroom, talks in their sleep or does all of the above, it might be a little hard to get them to sleep on the floor. And, even if you did convince them to do so, the sound of snoring would still keep you awake. An easy suggestion for those who snore would be to get them to use "Breathe Rite Strips!" Seriously! They do work since a lot of people have slightly swollen nasal passages and these strips help to open up the passages so that better air flow can be achieved. My wife can vouch for this. Although I wasn't a snorer I was a very heavy breather at night because of my allergies. Until I found a natural product that eliminated my allergy symptoms, I used the "Breathe Rite Strips" and it made a significant difference for both of us.

Maybe there are more serious underlying sleep disorder problems for your partner that would require a sleep expert to help them get a handle on some of their sleep issues. Maybe you might have to implement the extreme version of Ozzie and Harriet and actually sleep in separate rooms. It's only for sleep purposes. You can always get together. In fact, it might be kind of romantic that way: "Hey fella, you want to come to my room tonight?!"

Step 2 - Turn Off The News!

Instead of taking the last 30 minutes of your day and adding to your stress by listening to news stories about all the violence in the world or how you're going to have to deal with weather problems for your morning commute or how your favorite team lost a big game in the final minutes, why not do something to help you relax. Maybe it's reading a book or meditating, praying or knitting, spending time on a hobby or soaking in a nice warm bath. Use the last 30 minutes of your day to unwind not keep yourself wound up. When you're feeling tired enough to go to sleep then hit the sack.

Step 3 - Reestablish the Sleep Environment!

There's a lot that could be done in this step like:

o Get a new pillow! When your pillow starts to smell like you it's time to get a new one. All the allergens contained in and on your pillow could be your problem. There are a lot of pillows to choose from so be willing to invest in a good pillow that supports your sleep comfort.

o Block out noise! If you live in a creaky house that makes sounds at night or live next to a fire house or along a busy highway, then you might want to add some "white noise" to the background. It could be from a fan to circulate the air in the room or a little waterfall that gives you the tinkling sound of running water. Maybe you enjoy the peaceful sounds of the ocean or the wind through the leaves or the sound of the tall grasses on the prairie. There are CDs available that can provide you with this background noise. Just play it low enough to hear and allow your mind to take you to that relaxing spot where the stresses of life melt away. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ! Sorry, I dozed off for a second.

o Reduce the light! This isn't just for your eyes. Light also affects the way your brain produces the hormones that regulate your sleep cycle. For some people even a minimal amount of light can disrupt their sleep.

o Adjust the room temperature! A room that is too hot or too cold will usually affect your sleep. Adjust the thermostat, open or close a window, add or take off clothes, and adjusting your bedding can all help. If you like it cold and your partner likes it warm, then adjust your half of the bed to reach your comfort level.

o Move the clock! Not only can the light from the clock affect your sleep but if you're already anxious, staring at the time on your clock is not going to help.

o Adjust your bed! Maybe it's time to get a new mattress as well as a new pillow. They now make beds that allow you to adjust your sleep comfort on your half of the bed. This can take pressure off of the pressure points to help to reduce your stiffness or soreness.

Step 4 - Avoid the Following!

Some activities done too close to bedtime can interfere with sleep like:

o Caffeine - Avoid caffeinated drinks and foods because they can delay your sleep as well as cause you to wake up in the night. If you consume them, then ideally try to stop taking anymore after 12 noon and certainly don't consume any at least 3 hours before bedtime.

o Smoking - Nicotine is a stimulant so try to avoid smoking at least 6 hours before your bedtime. Plus, smoking affects your liver which can compound your overall health and add to your sleeping disorder.

o Exercise - This is not an excuse to stop exercising just avoid exercising within 3 hours of bedtime. Many people find exercising in the morning, afternoon and early evening helps them sleep better at night.

o Alcohol - Avoid excessive alcohol since it can disrupt your normal sleep patterns during the second half of the night.

o Liquids - Avoid large quantities of fluids just before bedtime. This will help decrease your chances of waking up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.

Step 5 - Try the Following Foods for a Good Night's Sleep!

The following foods can relax tense muscles, quiet your overly active mind, and provide your body with the sleep-inducing hormones serotonin and melatonin:

o Bananas - Ever wonder why in the afternoon after you've eaten your banana, you have a hard time staying awake? People have labeled the banana the "sleeping pill in a peel." Bananas contain melatonin and serotonin as well as magnesium which can act as a muscle relaxant.

o Chamomile Tea - Warm chamomile tea provides a mild sedating effect to help calm a restless mind and body. And, it's almost calorie free!

o Warm Milk - Yes, mom was right about this. Milk has some tryptophan which is an amino acid that has a sedative-like effect. Plus, the calcium helps the brain use the tryptophan more effectively. Just make it skim milk to save on fat calories.

o Honey - Lots of sugar is a stimulate but a little honey drizzled in your warm milk or herb tea provides just enough glucose to tell your brain to turn off orexin, a recently discovered neurotransmitter that appears to be linked to alertness.

o Oatmeal - Oats are a rich source of melatonin so a small bowl of warm oatmeal with a splash of honey or maple syrup will warm your tummy, take the edge of your late-night hunger and leave you feeling warm and cozy.

o Almonds - You only need a small handful since these heart-healthy nuts contain both typtophan and that nice muscle-relaxing mineral magnesium.

o Turkey and Whole-Wheat Bread - Yes, turkey is famous for tryptophan but when overstuffed with tons of protein, tryptophan doesn't make you sleepy. All the blood in your abdominal cavity, instead of your brain, trying to digest your Thanksgiving meal puts you to sleep. But, if you take a lean slice of turkey on one slice of whole-wheat bread, fold it in half for a mid-evening snack, then you've just created a sleep inducer.

I hope this information helps you like it has helped so many others. It's not going to solve everyone's sleep issues but it can have a profound effect for many. And, for those who are still unable to get a good night's sleep than it's time to see a sleep specialist who can help you develop a plan to bring those much needed "ZZZZZZZZZZZ" into your life.

Any Increased Tension Between China and The Us - Blame it on Obama

For someone who graduated from Yale, you'd think that Barack Obama would understand global trade and the global economy a lot better than he does. [in my opinion]. Apparently, he doesn't because he doesn't understand [or perhaps care] that many of his actions are creating tensions between China and the United States. No, China has not been the world's best trading partner, but they have been our largest trading partner.

And yes, it is true that China has taken advantage of the United States' ability to purchase due to our strong middle-class to import almost as much as China was able to produce previously. Today, China could easily produce enough products for three or four countries the size of the United States. The entire EU, all put together barely equals the GDP of the US. So that would mean there are two countries so to speak with the ability to buy that number of products, but China could produce enough for five.

Therefore, China cannot continue its year-over-year growth of 10% by exporting products forever, there aren't enough customers, and are not enough raw materials in the world for them to keep doing this. Eventually they're going to have to produce products for themselves and allow other nations to come up in the world so that they can produce products for them as well. What they've done is overproduced for a world that does not need that much.

Because of this ability to overproduce, their prices have also come down on many items and this has hurt American manufacturers. Most of the manufacturing companies in the United States which use union labor are upset that all of their manufacturing jobs are going overseas. President Obama made good on a campaign promise he made before his election to help the steel workers union by levying tariffs against China's exports recently.

You see, although President Obama has not often made good on his promises as President, he has discovered that the healthcare insurance bill was going to charge an additional tax for "Cadillac Health Care Plans" which meant that many of the steel worker union employees, most of them, would be charged extra money for their healthcare insurance.

Therefore, the union did not support Obama's health care plan. So to make this up to them and to make good on his promise before the election he put a tariff on Chinese tires. In other words, he would sacrifice US Chinese trade relations to appease the unions, this is the same type of union that caused the auto industry to collapse, and have lobbied for more regulations on corporations to serve the union's political will, forcing American companies to take their jobs overseas.

President Obama is now part of the problem, in my personal or professional opinion after following politics, and free trade issues for over 30 years. I honestly believe Obama should be impeached. And I believe this should happen immediately. Please consider all this.

History of the Revolution of Trade Union

Trade Union is one kind of labor union. These are one kind of organizations where the labors become accumulate to achieve some of their rights like proper working condition and proper wages. These organizations or unions negotiate to the employers to get their rights as well as to get the employees satisfaction with maintaining the employees' satisfaction also.

In order to realize the union history we have to look at the past. There was a system in Europe called the guild system which worked with the protection of some specific professions by maintaining advancement and skills. But the guild system should not be considered the same as union but the guild system must be told as the pioneer of the union system.

Before the industrial revolution, workers tended to work at their home to produce goods. But approximately at the time of eighteenth century due to the industrial revolution people became interested about joining at the industries. When a massive number of people started to work under one or more employee then it was becoming a necessary to make a representative of the workers to share their conditions with the employer. In the USA, early trade unions and workers performed very effective activities to achieve their rights.

The idea of Unions became very popular in the USA at nineteenth century. During that time the first national trade-union appeared called the National Labor Union. This organization was first appeared at the year of 1866 and the most important feature of this union is it was not for any particular labors. It was rally effective to gain all rights of labors working in every sector in USA. With the features of child labor protection and legislation about eight hour working shift, the Knight of Labor came out as a trade union in the USA at the year of 1869.

Whatever, there are several unions now all over the world who are working to gain the proper rights of the labors.

There is a lot of history behind the formation of a Trade Union. Click here to know more about Trade Union

Brain Draining - A Different Perspective

The concept of Brain draining is very ancient though the term was used in the early 1950 by spokesman of the Royal Society of London. The magnitude of brain draining has increased in this present scenario. Immigration of good individuals abroad to serve other nations is attributed as brain drain. This phenomenon can be observed even in the early history. The super power of every age use good individuals of other nations in their interest. Presently almost all under developed countries are at stake because this is going all over, high qualified professionals are migrating to USA, UK, Canada and other countries, but Pakistan is facing this storm rigorously and it's getting violent day by day. The desire of youth to get abroad is growing rapidly and this issue is not yet properly addressed.

One of the reasons of this dilemma is due to the unjust environment surrounding good individuals. Housing problem, security threats, health issues, intense inflation, power failure, bribery are some of the reasons which are driving good individuals abroad and leading them to stay permanently. Considerable number of graduates is leaving for abroad every year and very few came back from higher education.

Going for higher education is another thing, but staying there and serving them is what brain draining is. Even in the life time of Prophet Muhammad (Peace. Be.Upon. Him), there was incident when the Prophet (Peace. Be.Upon. Him) sent Muslims on a special mission to ash-Sham (modern day Syria, Jordan and Palestine). Ash-Sham was ruled by Romans, who were Christians and super power of that time; they were highly skilled in military technology. Muslims were sent for special mission to acquire that technology and to use it for the global implementation of Islam. Another example of acquiring technology was through Persians the second world power of that time, Muslims worked for trench technology through Salman Al farsi (May Allah be please with him) and it was used in the Battle of the Trench(khandak) and played an effective role. The difference between the present scenario of Muslims and the Prophet's Companions' episode is that they do have a vision while our individuals go abroad for self contentment.

Brain draining notion is very ancient, there is one example from the Prophet Muhammad (Peace. Be.Upon. Him) when the battle of Badr was over, some of the prisoners were released on the condition that they should teach 10 Muslims to read and write, this is the excellent example how the state used other people for educational programs. Another example of brain draining is Sultan Mehmed 'the conqueror of Constantinople' when he used a German Orban. Orban was highly skilled in cannon making and arms production that time, he offered his services to Byzantines but Sultan Mehmed very tactfully handled him and offered good reward in return. Sultan provided him a makeshift foundry where he worked and produced the largest cannon of that period called 'the Great Turkish Bombard', which was powerful enough to break the fort of Constantinople and this how Sultan achieved great historical victory. Orban's cannon could carry 1200 lb (544 kg) ball as far as one mile.

Well these are some of the examples how Islam had used non Muslims, it clearly shows us that without vision and motto, one can't stop brain draining, unless and until the problem is not properly diagnosed. There is need for both Vision and healthy environment for good individuals and this can't be done if the State does not make itself responsible, if the state will not take this seriously then there is no use of delivering lengthy speeches in various seminars.

The case is bitterly regrettable, few individuals from youth is somehow feeling this pain in Pakistan. That is the reason seminars are organized, but this issue should be properly addressed by the state and the system that drives mass and the mob. And it should be properly analyzed with this provided historical perspective.

Windmills - An Often Overlooked Renewable Energy Source

There was a time when it wasn't uncommon to see large sweeping windmills on many rural farms. They were used to pump water or run the machinery for grinding grain. Just a few decades ago, those days seemed to be nearly over with, but with the renewed interest in going green and trying to find ways to meet energy demands using alternative methods, modern technology is being applied to the simple windmill.

The graceful windmills from our past still work quite well for harnessing the power of the wind, but an even better type of windmill has been introduced across the nation. It is called the wind turbine, or wind generator. Wind turbines are mainly used in wind farms, for the commercial production of electricity. They have 3 blades which are pointed into the wind for maximum efficiency.

Many states in the USA either already have energy producing wind turbines, or are planning to build them in the near future. These states include Texas, Washington, Oregon, California, West Virginia, Wyoming, Minnesota, Georgia, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Maine, Arizona, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Virginia, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio and Massachusetts. The majority of these states have full fledged energy producing wind farms in use, while a small number of them only have a few wind turbines supplying electricity to single buildings.

While the controversy continues over the impact of wind turbines on wildlife, especially birds and bats, it seems the benefits gained by using wind turbines hugely outweigh any negative impact on natural wildlife. Studies show that the number of birds killed by wind turbines is negligible, while bat species do appear to be at risk during certain hours of the day. Since nearly nothing is known about current bat populations, no determination has been able to be made between the loss of bat life and wind farms.

Many wind farms are placed in locations already in use for farming, with cattle and sheep grazing contentedly in the fields beneath them. The animals seem to pay no attention to the towering wind turbines and have not been impacted negatively in any way.

With so much stress on going green, and the abundance of information on solar energy available today, many people have overlooked windmills altogether. They are a viable renewable energy source, whether used for your own home or on a commercial scale. Next time you travel across the landscape, look up. You just might see a windmill or wind turbine standing majestically against the sky.

Molybdenum Mining Investing? Check with Locals, Natives First

We interviewed Adanac Molybdenum executive chairman Larry Reaugh about the dozens of junior resource companies, which now proclaim they are part of the Molybdenum Bull Market. His company appears as a potential molybdenum producer on the horizon.

Since the beginning of this year, Reaugh's company has been riding the 'moly wave.' Institutions and investors are climbing aboard as greater interest emerges in the silvery-white metal, which adds both hardness and anti-corrosive properties to everything from energy pipelines and nuclear power plant condensers to desalination plants, automotive parts and air pollution systems for coal-fired power plants.

We posed five questions to Larry Reaugh to help separate the hype from the reality of the current molybdenum mania.

StockInterview: Of all the molybdenum companies out there, how do you know which are going to become economic?

Larry Reaugh: You can really only tell once the bankable feasibility is done. The bankable really narrows down the resource itself into a reserve and that can change. It's the only thing that can tell you with any assurance that a project can move ahead and make money. You should be able to take it to the bank, and they should finance you to go into production.

StockInterview: Please explain the timeline and the process to move a moly project from the resource stage all the way through the bankable feasibility and permitting stages.

Larry Reaugh: By the time you get to the resource stage, you should already have your baseline study and your environmental permitting started. You should have already made contact with all the various levels of government and stakeholders in the area to hire a qualified engineering firm - one that has impeccable credentials to do the pre-feasibility. And also apply for your mining lease at that time. Once the pre-feasibility is done, that gives you 30 to 40 percent certainty on the project. You take the results from those and then decide to move right into the feasibility of those if it's at all positive. Eventually when you get into the bankable feasibility, then you have another 10 to 20 percent assurance that the project will bear fruit at the end of the day. A bankable feasibility gives you reserves. Once you get reserves, you can actually put a dollar number value to it. That gives you enough of a grounding to it in which to do the detailed mining That includes the mining plans for your piping, your water, your foundation layouts, your site plans. Every Nth degree of construction that's going to take place in that plant has to be put on paper. That's about a 13-month project and will cost you up to C$15 million. So, now you move it through the environmental stage. That can take up to 3.5 years.

StockInterview: Many mining projects around the world get stalled because of bad relationships with the native inhabitants. Please tell us about Adanac's relationship with the First Nation of Canada.

Larry Reaugh: If you don't have a good transparent relationship with the natives and the locals, and you don't include them all the way through, you are not going to have ease of getting your social, economic and environmental permits done. When we got involved up there, the first thing that we did was contact the local band in the area. We met with the consul, basically gave them our plans. They brought in their consultants, and as each problem came up, we worked our way through it. They became a big part of working through to the solution. They know that there's an impact benefits agreement that we will be negotiating over the next couple of months. Socially, this is a big economic boost for everybody in the area. If you can help them to raise their industry awareness in having off-spins from that mine - other industries that they can develop, then you are doing a good job of being a good corporate citizen, not just to the native groups but also to the entire area. If you don't think that way, then you are going to have problems before you get going.

StockInterview: What steps will you have to take to begin production after you get your mining permits?

Larry Reaugh: Once the environmental permits are in, it'll be construction. That will take about 18 months. That will be right from the ground up - from breaking the soil to laying the foundations to pre-stripping the pit to laying down the tailings pond and the waste dump site.

StockInterview: The molybdenum mining market is robust right now. Why should investors consider Adanac as opposed to other moly companies?

Larry Reaugh: If you go to our site, you will see that the bankable feasibility is calling for a three-year payback on a C$450 million investment. We believe that that is obtainable. The project is way ahead of its peers. I don't think there's anybody else that's breaking ground this summer on a project of this size. Here's a company that's trading at a very low market cap, which leaves a very great entry point for a mine that could be producing by the last quarter of 2008 and certainly full production by the first quarter of 2009.

The Federal Reserve - The Shocking Event That Occurred In October

The Great Recession hasn't been good for much, but there definitely has been one major silver lining. In 2000, any mention of the Federal Reserve would have produced a blank stare from most Americans. Ten years later, everyone knows who the Fed is, the chairman and how the Fed really controls the financial strings of this country. This month, things even became more apparent.

The level of national debt in this country is absolutely horrific. The latest numbers as I run this are in the mid thirteen trillion dollar range. Think about that for a second. Thirteen trillion dollars. That is a lot of cheese, mulla, greenbacks or whatever name you want to give it.

This high national debt scares people. One of the concerns is foreign entities own so much of our debt that it is feared we could become puppets of their desires. To be blunt, the concern is China. The country is growing into a force that will surely rival the United States this decade. The fact the Chinese own so much of our debt would seem to suggest they could crush our economy by dumping the debt and refusing to buy anymore.

Well, here is some breaking news. The Chinese have not purchased any of our long term debt in, well, a long time. In fact, they've started to sell it off to other countries and investors. So, who exactly is buying it? Well, this is where we get back to the Federal Reserve Bank and the shocking revelation.

The Fed is buying our long-term debt. Think about that for a second. We are buying our own debt. How? Through "quantitative easing", which simply means the Fed is creating the money out of the air. We used to call it printing money, but there is little need to do that now given the digital revolution.

Okay, times are tough. Maybe this is just a temporary situation that will be corrected when things get better. Well, here is where the big shock comes in. This is not a small dabble in the market by the Fed. No, this month the Federal Reserve Bank became the second largest holder of our debt trailing only China. Is this not a Ponzi scheme of sorts? It certainly seems so. Bernie Madoff must be snickering in his prison cell.

When you hear the glowing reports in the media that the recession is over and everything is great, don't fall for it. We are on the cusp of a major debt crisis in this country. Just keep watching the Fed to see how things are going.

Uranium Mining Revival in New Mexico through Solution Mining

"We've got to get quickly on a track to energy independence from foreign oil, and that means, among other things, going back to nuclear power," U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) recently told Fox News. U.S. Sen. Pete Domenici (R-NM) invited Louisiana Enrichment Services (LES) to build a gas-centrifuge uranium enrichment facility near Hobbs, New Mexico. The facility is currently undergoing the permitting process. Southwest Research and Information Center's Annette Aguayo told us the group planned to begin working on stopping that project. Some environmentalists remain behind the times.

Other environmentalists, who led before, are leading again. James Lovelock, the spiritual guru of the world's environmental movement, sometimes called the "Father of the Green Revolution," because of his research and widely embraced warnings on DDT and CFCs, wrote in Reader's Digest, (March, 2005), "The figures show that many people's fears of nuclear energy are unreasonable." Dr. Lovelock also said "the Greens are plain wrong to oppose it." In May, 2004, Lovelock wrote, "Nuclear power is the only green solution."

New Mexico is primed for a uranium revival, not with conventional mining, but with ISL operations. The in situ leaching method, also known as solution mining, is environmentally friendly. Because it is low cost and does not contaminate the environment in ways that uranium mining did in the 1950s, many uranium companies plan to use this safer method for mining uranium in New Mexico.

In a conversation, late last year, with Grants Chamber of Commerce and Mining Museum employee Barbara Hahn, a deep resentment resounded in her voice when talking about the collapse of the uranium mining business in the 1980s. Grants (NM) was a boom town, during the 1970s uranium boom, when spot uranium prices climbed, and stayed above $40/pound. "Grants replaced the lost mining jobs by opening prisons," she told us. "Now, others bring us their prisoners." Ms. Hahn believed only 35 percent of the uranium had been extracted from the Grants Mineral Belt. "Most of it is still there," she added. According to a McLemore and Chenoweth geological report, a resource of 558 million pounds (279,000 short tons) might still be extracted. The question in the 1980s as it is today revolves around the spot price of uranium.

The higher the spot price of uranium, the more economic it can be to mine. As the price of uranium rises, then the quantity of an economic resource increases. At $30/pound, the U.S. Energy Information Administrated reported the state of New Mexico held 84 million pounds of uranium oxide, grading 0.28/ton, as of Dec 31, 2003. However, at $50/pound uranium, that quantity would jump to 341 million pounds. The spread on the gross value of the uranium assets between those price levels is nearly $15 billion! As the spot price escalates, the economic reserves grow.

Said William Sheriff, Director of Corporate Development for Energy Metals (TSX: EMC), "Our long-term, big, big projects are going to be in New Mexico. Long term, we think New Mexico is going to be quite valuable to us." He explained his company's plans are to first develop production centers in Texas and Wyoming, before developing ISL operations in The Enchanted State. Sheriff added, "Nothing in New Mexico in terms of the first five years, but that's not to say we're going to sit idly by. We're going to be aggressively pursuing these. The only thing we're going to be pursuing is ISL production." Based upon the company's extensive acquisitions in Wyoming, New Mexico and elsewhere, Sheriff threw down the gauntlet at Cameco and Cogema, whose ISL operations in Wyoming contribute the largest share of U.S. uranium production, "We intend to become the largest ISL producer in the United States."

David Miller, President and Chief Operation Officer of Strathmore Minerals, (TSX: STM; Other OTC: STHJF), believes, "The ISL production method will continue to grow in the United States, but we will also see a return to conventional mining and milling in the western states." In addition to their Wyoming uranium properties, Strathmore hopes to move forward their Church Rock uranium property on the heels of Uranium Resources' (OTC BB: URRE) permitting on Section 17, held by their HRI subsidiary. Basically, all three companies are friendly neighbors in the area. There is evidence they frequently talk among themselves, comparing notes. The three uranium juniors appear to be the current major players in New Mexico for ISL uranium mining.

Ron Driscoll, one of the co-founders of Quincy Energy, which has been acquired by Energy Metals, said, "It will get interesting when the oil companies get involved again." It is probably early for the oil giants to rush back into uranium. In the last uranium boom, many of the major oil companies were leaders in the uranium exploration and mining. Kerr-McGee Nuclear was the number one private sector uranium producer in the world. Other major oil companies involved in uranium mining and exploration included Mobil, Phillips, Conoco, Exxon, Chevron, Amoco and others. Another of the recently arrived uranium juniors, Max Resources (TSX: MXR) also plans to drill at the other end of New Mexico, in Socorro County (about 100 miles south of Albuquerque). MXR's property was once drilled by OxyMin, a subsidiary of Occidental Petroleum, during the 1980s, before the price of uranium fell off a cliff.

Perhaps, one major company will emerge in New Mexico, consolidating the others, or some of the others. "There's a huge number of small uranium plays in the North American market that need critical mass," Neal Froneman, CEO of Uranium One (TSE: SXR) recently told a South African newspaper. "Consolidation will drive our business in the US and Canada, where we think it's tactically smart to be." Uranium One was itself a consolidation between Toronto-based Southern Cross and South African-based Aflease. Froneman concluded, ""It makes sense to have a major presence in North America in order to supply the (U.S.) utilities that will need to be built."

"The geology for this area, with regards to ISL uranium operations, could help make New Mexico an important supplier to U.S. utilities, possibly before the end of this decade," Strathmore's David Miller agreed. "I would not be surprised at all if there were more uranium to be found in New Mexico than is currently estimated. That's why companies have exploration programs." From a state, which has produced over 300 million pounds of uranium, and which may have between 300 million and 600 million additional pounds of uranium, New Mexico will be a prime target for uranium companies as long as the price of uranium continues to rise. Will uranium crash and burn, as it did in the 1980s? After accurately predicting the spot price of uranium would double in a StockInterview feature in June 2004, Miller recently told StockInterview, "I wouldn't be surprised to see the price double again."

How Much Impact Could We Make by Co-Ordinating All the Current Food and Environmental Projects?

Fruit, vegetables, cocoa, coffee, tea are all things we take for granted on UK supermarket shelves but how many shoppers know that they originated in Africa or were made from African produce?

UK shoppers spend about 1 million every day on food products from Africa, including some Fairtrade items.

The focus on climate change and on food miles, however, has created misunderstanding about the sustainability of food from African and highlighted how little we know about how the resulting changed shopping habits have impacted on developing countries.

Almost 75% of Africans relay totally on agriculture for their livings and severl million of them rely partly on selling produce to the UK to enable many of them to escape poverty.

Most UK consumers support the idea of making their shopping choices reduce poverty. However, they also worry about other issues such as price, food safety, the environment and animal welfare.

Now, to add to the pressure comes a new report this month (July 2010) saying that climate change threatens to undo years of work to tackle poverty in developing countries.

Forum for the Future's study emphasised the need for strong action in poor countries to tackle climate change but in tandem with efforts to boost economic development and it said international aid's efforts to tackle poverty should factor in climate change and measures to help poor countries adapt to its effects.

It wants them to avoid promoting high-carbon development and to help developing nations deal with the impact of climate change and seize new opportunities created by global movement to a more low-carbon economy.

The UK's Department for International Development (DFID) supported the Forum's latest report and also has its own initiative, FRICH Food Retail Industry Challenge to support the development of trade in food from Africa to the UK.

No in its third round of bidding the Challenge asks food supply and distribution business with their supply chain partners to test and develop innovative business models to bring new and higher volumes of food products from Africa to UK while improving the livelihoods of African producers.

So far it has funded seven challenges. They include Bettys & Taylors of Harrogate, seller of a famous Yorkshire Tea, which is working with Rwanda's tea authority, tea factory owners, the Rainforest Alliance and the farmers who supply the factories to develop a sustainable supply of quality tea for their famous Yorkshire Tea brand. Rwanda tea is now on UK supermarket shelves as a Yorkshire Gold 'seasons pick'

The Co-operative has long supported Fairtrade and is working with tea supplier Finlay Beverages, the Cooperative College UK and Africa Now to deliver the benefits of both Fairtrade and the co-operative business model for sustainable livelihoods for 8,000 small-scale tea farmers in Kericho, South-West Kenya.

Waitrose has been helping growers to adapt their cultivation and production processes to meet the environmental requirements of the LEAF Marque standard as a way of spreading the message of sustainable agricultural practices across Africa. The LEAF Marque guarantee for UK fresh grown produce has been used by Waitrose for the past three years and the company has now committed to helping all its suppliers to use environmentally responsible practices.

The third Challenge Fund bidding round invites UK companies to offer projects that will promote trade to some of the poorest countries north of South Africa and south of the Sahara

Its aims are enhancing productivity and adding value to any sector of the supply chain from the start in food production, through processing, storage, to compliance, financing or procurement

It also aims to extend the benefits of export supply chains to producers currently unable to meet market requirements or insufficiently established as export growers to be able to attract commercial investment in their operations.

Its third focus is expanding UK consumer demand for African produce in the face of concerns about food miles, environmental conservation, labour standards and food safety.

Search around a bit and it's possible to find any number of inventive pieces providing some solutions to the complex puzzle of climate change, environment and food scarcity.

They can be small and local - such as the Indian village treadle-powered irrigation system that has stabilised and improved cultivation there - or slightly larger like the FRICH Challenge focusing on a particular world region.

Or they can be potentially far-reaching - like the Biopesticides Developers' invention of promising new low-chem agricultural products such as biofungicides and yield enhancers to play their part in helping combat climate change and pests while increasing yield sustainably to help farmers, both small and larger.

It would be nice if all these disparate elements were co-ordinated to work in tandem to making access to food and a reasonable income fairer around the world alongside a significant global impact on preserving the environment.

Copyright (c) 2010 Alison Withers

There's plenty of evidence of research, projects and initiatives of all sizes happening around the world to combat climate change, restore the environment or increase farming yield sustainably from village irrigation schemes to R & D in low-chem agricultural biofungicides. Yet says consumer journalist Ali Withers we have little sense that they're making much impact.

An American Soccer Fan's Musings On Mexico - Part II

With another United States - Mexico matchup on the books, let us take a moment to think about this rivalry in a broader context. I have drawn an interesting mix of criticism and praise for my suggestion that, at least right now, the Mexican side seems better than the American team. The United States has managed to dominate the series of late, in large measure because the American side has taken a more intelligent and calm approach to the rivalry. The Mexican players are more likely to boast unnecessarily, to commit foolish fouls, and to otherwise show the signs of a team under much greater pressure to win without the emotional resources to overcome its fans lofty expectations.

That said, Mexican fans will likely eventually need to come to grips with the fact that the American team will not just continue their head-to-head dominance, but will also soon occupy a much more prominent role internationally. There are a number of reasons for this, but in my estimation here are the five biggest reasons:

1. Momentum. Isaac Newton famously noted that objects in motion tend to stay in motion. Despite the setbacks suffered in 2006 and 1998, over the last 15 years the United States has been on an incredible ascent. They used to be a mere exhibition opponent against top international competition- the quintessential homecoming opponent that you could beat up on and look great doing it. Now, the United States has become less phased by playing top South American and European competition.

On the other hand, Mexico has been very consistent. This is both good and bad; good because you can usually count on them to reach the Round of 16 at the Cup, but bad because they never really look like doing much more than that. To be sure, Mexico has a new crop of youngsters who look pretty classy, but it isn't clear to me that Castillo, Guardado or Ochoa represent a clear improvement over Borgetti, Blanco or Marquez in their primes.

Now, the American fan needs to remember the second part of Newton's maxim, namely that, "objects in motion tend to stay in motion, unless acted upon." In international football, there are myriad forces acting against the continued ascent of any team. After all, to climb up the ladder, you have to do so at the expense of other nations, most of which are equally dedicated to improving, or at least maintaining, their position. As such, it's always important to remember that it's much easier to go from bad to good than from good to best.

2. Youth System. Though the American youth system has been much maligned for its apparent exclusion (or at least inability to include) of Latinos, blacks and urban youth, there are more good things about it than bad things. First, the sheer size of the system makes it the largest in the world. More American kids play soccer than Little League baseball and youth basketball combined. Though most kids eventually turn in their soccer boots for football cleats or high-top sneakers, this is slowly changing. With more kids playing organized soccer at an early age, the talent pool from which the next generation of players will be drawn is an order of magnitude bigger even than the one that produced Donovan, Beasley, Bocanegra and the rest of the current USA starters.

Critics of soccer in the United States love nothing more than to bash college soccer as detrimental to the development of the game in the United States. True, if the United States depends on college soccer to identify and develop its talents, then it is in trouble. What college soccer provides, though, is a forum for thousands of young people who might not be at their developmental apex in their teens, to continue to grow, develop and season into more polished players. A good analogy to draw is with the NBA. Great players like Kobe Bryant or Kevin Garnett will always look to begin their professional careers as quickly as possible, but the NBA is full of players who have elected to stay in college, often because they were not ready -either physically or in terms of the development of their game- right out of high school. Similarly, for every Adu or Altidore who begins his career early, there is an Edu or Dempsey who college to hone their games. As the United States progresses, I believe that many players (not most) will be college attendees or graduates, and this will provide a competitive advantage for the US. Perhaps as importantly, college soccer also provides a venue for players to develop their knowledge, thus eventually allowing them to join the next generation of coaches.

3. Money. You can't buy happiness, you can't buy love, and you can't buy a championship, but having nice things doesn't hurt, having a pocket full or money will make you a little more attractive to the ladies, and having enormous resources at your disposal can make pursuing a championship just a little easier.

By western European standards, soccer in the United States may seem like a relative pauper. The United States Soccer Federation does not have the riches or clout of the English FA or the DFB in Germany, but it does have resources. First, the substantial investment of Nike and other corporate sponsors has allowed the construction of some truly first-rate developmental facilities that have attracted increasingly impressive talent. In addition, if the relative prosperity of soccer families in the United States has a benefit, it is that top youth teams in the United States have access to training, fitness, facilities, nutrition science, travel, tournaments and clinics that far outpace what most Mexican youth have access to.

4. Major League Soccer. You really cannot underestimate the impact of the MLS on the growth of American soccer. All of the points that I make about the college system, apply them here at ten times the volume. For the most part, the league has been very well run, and though the near future likely will not allow it to compete with the top leagues in Europe, the day may be close at hand where the MLS has better quality at the top and greater depth throughout than does the Mexican league. Indeed, no reasonable observer would assert that Mexican league soccer will compete on the level of, for example, the Premiership before the MLS does. As is often the case when comparing American entities to their Mexican counterparts -in both sporting and non-sporting contexts- the United States simply has a much higher ceiling. People like CNNSI's resident troglodyte Luis Bueno often lose sight of this important fact when uttering foolishness about Mexico winning a World Cup before the United States.

5. The weight of expectations. From the moment Landon Donovan's header sealed Mexico's fate in the 2002 World Cup, Mexico has slowly been ground down by the weight of unreasonable fan expectations that get constantly frustrated by their inability to beat their hated rival to the north. By contrast, American fans are fewer, generally less critical, and are not given over as much to histrionics when their team falls short. Distilled down, Mexican fans give the stick, and American fans offer carrots. For whatever reason, Mexico has never responded well to this adversity. Good teams can become psychically damaged by failing to meet expectations. Take England, for example. Certainly one of the top ten footballing nations in the world, their fans and players are in constant agony in large measure because they are not good enough to win the World Cup. They are a good team, maybe even a great team, but they haven't been the best team in four decades. Similarly, Mexico is a good team, but just not a great team; same with the United States. The difference is that American fans have come to accept this reality (for now), while the Mexican fans have not.

Population Problem

There is no denying fact that Bangladesh is an overpopulated country for which its economic as well as financial stringency always remains in shortage stage. Since, the country which is over populated can face lots of problems. These problems are food, shelter, and clothing and even in all levels of development over population cannot be treated as a good symptom. In Asia, Europe Latin America and even in some parts of Australia, there is a tremendous pressure on their national growth. In China, there are lots of problems emanating from heavy rush of population phenomena. Per Capita income of china is 25 dollar but the market prices are higher, so being an over populated country, the resources are always sparse. The birth control system of China is not restricted. The people who are educated and honest can adopt such policy, as compared to China and India, the growth rate of population census in Bangladesh is at satisfactory standard. The land is vastly dominated where the no. of population is at minimum level.

In Great Britain, per capita income of the people is $30 dollar, and as such it is possible for them to survive with the resources what they have. The problems of United Kingdom are as follows:

1)Due to discrimination of castes, and creeds, regional populations are over populated and vast.

2)The people lived by farming cannot take birth control system.

3)Some people in some parts of Great Britain are very conservative and being such clamorous, they are not found so much interested in doing so.

4)Some business men in Wales and Bristol are wealthy and highly influential in respect of family tradition, birth and tribe. They always give their verdict in keeping more children.

5)In London, most of the people are well educated and ambitious and as a result, they are very much hopeful to adopt such birth control system. In 1980, the number of population was 20 million, but presently this population has augmented to 21.5 million.

According to Thomas Malthus and L. Robinson, the power of population is undoubtedly greater than the power in the earth to produce valuables materials for humans. Presently, there are not enough amenities for every man on earth because in order to strike back famine, food is not strewn extensively. The reasons are mainly bedded on political, economic and social factors. In this connection, that the earth's population is augmenting each year, the forecasting measurement could be realistic to face challenges in near future. In this respect, his prediction has in the meantime become real to some specific issues.

In order to strengthen the population control programme a better awareness among literate and illiterate need to be created so that the over burden of population can be checked. It is evident that the uses of practices of such abortion need to be externalized. Abortion is a useful tool for population control. If it was not practiced, the population would be unjust aim able for the planet. Over population is one of the major problem connected with regions where birth control system are low, although over population is primarily a problem in a developing countries. There are lots of complications that arise when over population occurs. In most developing countries that are over populated, they contain lots of economic problems. There are often high employment rates because there are no jobs in the economy for everyone. As unemployment rates rise, poverty rises as well without adequate supply of food, unemployment rises. This is not lobe alder. As far an example- in crowded regions, where population density is high, there is a higher rustic of handling money, far which curse starts against them.

In view of the above, it is obvious that over population is a great threadbare of economics. It creates unemployment for which the social economic condition of the people situates at low level. Birth control system is highly appreciated nowadays for which the poorer countries are adopting these policies. Abortion is helpful in controlling over population by way of preventing a whole range of other problems. The problems are sequentially great in Africa; these problems are vast and intricate. In South Africa, the people are mostly ignorant and not much educated for which they always suffer from various problems and scarcity of wealth. In one family, it has been found out on a statistics that they possess 10 children each family. As compared to Bangladesh, the birth rate is 21.6% whereas this percentage amounts 40% in South Africa.

From Ngong With Tales of Silk And Silkworms

Our travels this April, it seems, will be accentuated by the visit recently to the small but vibrant town of Ngong which played host to a unique trade fair held at the community level where producers and processors can showcase their products to their clients - the Kenya Livestock Producers Association Trade Fair which was to be officially opened by Prof. George Saitoti, Minister for Internal Security. The trade fair offers an opportunity for local entrepreneurs and producers to showcase their goods and services to the community.

The trade fair has traditionally targeted mostly crop and livestock farmers and hence most of the wares exhibited are of an agricultural nature ranging from improved seed varieties, new feed formulas guaranteed to improve yields, livestock insurance products and the like. But there is an occasional outlier that proves to be an eye open to all who attend.

The Ngong exhibition held on the 29th of April had one such outlier - a sericulture project showcased by the National Sericulture Station from Thika. Sericulture, or silk farming, is the rearing of silkworms for the production of raw silk.

Silkworms, which are offspring of moths, produce their highly-desirable, silk by spewing out thread from tiny holes in their jaws, which they use to spin into their egg-bearing cocoons. This entire production takes a mere 72 hours, during which time they produce between 500-1,200 silken threads.

Once the silkworm completes its cocoon, the farmer takes it from the silkworm to prevent the shrunken pupa, carefully encased inside, from hatching into a moth in 12 days. The silk farmers ensure that this event does not transpire, and does not jeopardise this very labour-intensive moneymaking venture, by exposing the cocoons to heat, thereby executing the pupa.

The silk production process begins by bathing the now-empty cocoons in troughs of warm water, which serves to soften the gum binding the silken filaments together. The farmer then proceeds with the arduous task of unraveling several cocoons, and winding the filaments onto a reel that twists 10-12 filaments together into a 'single' thread of silk. The end product is a skein of raw silk. The value of the final product is graded according to the number of threads threaded together. A 3 threaded thread is more expensive than a 2 threaded thread and so on.

We gathered that with only a ¼ of an acre one can expect to generate up to Kshs 20,000.00 per year which can be improved with irrigation to Kshs 32,500.00. The Thika project is using the Mulberry plant (which, according to the exhibitor, can be as many as 4,000 plants in just an acre) to feed the worms which are housed in a 7x5x3m room which can accommodate about 40,000 silkworms.

We found the level of sanitization of these small creatures very intense - the whole room plus the floor are first disinfected with formalin (any other disinfectant can also be used) before lime is sprinkled around the house.

During good weather (adequate rainfall) one cycle of silkworm rearing can produce about 40kgs of cocoons. With good management up to four cycles can be possible in a year.

But the story of the silk worm though an outlier, did not start in Thika or Ngong. The ancient Chinese unearthed the silkworm's secret, and were the first to spin the silkworm's threads into cloth. They kept this clandestine, top-secret operation, from the rest of the world by imposing the death sentence upon those who smuggled the worm and/or its eggs out of China.

There has been a growing trend to change paradigms of agricultural production systems from the traditional farming enterprises to those that yield the most benefits while using the least cost. Sericulture alongside rabbit keeping is proving to be one such enterprise of the future.

Get The Comfortable Sleep That You Need From A Kingsdown Mattress

Based on the studies that have been performed by the NSF or National Sleep Foundation, an average American adult needs to get at least 8 hours of sleep every single night. However, this is not the case for most of people. In fact, most of people nowadays especially those that belong to the working class only get half of the required number of hours for sleep daily. This is one of the strongest reasons why a lot of people nowadays are struggling with different health problems and issues that may have been brought about by lack of sleep. Through this fact, you will know that having a good night's sleep is very necessary in order for a person to keep himself in optimum health condition. Are Socialist Voters More Greedy Then Entrepreneurial Capitalists?

You know, as an entrepreneur and a business person, I get tired of people calling me some sort of greedy capitalist. The reality is that when I produce something that the consumers, customers, or my clients want, I am doing them a favor, and I am spending my time, my capital, and my efforts to bring those goods and services to market. If I didn't exist, or if people like me didn't exist, everything you see, everywhere you go in this great nation wouldn't exist. Why don't you do a favor for me right now.

"Take your little iPhone IV, and shove it up your... No, just kidding," but seriously, take your iPhone, turn on the digital camera and take a picture in any direction, now turned 45-degrees and take another picture, and keep doing that until you've made a 360 degree turn. I think what you will notice after you have completed this assignment, is that you will see a number of items, perhaps buildings, furniture, vehicles, electronic gadgetry, all sorts of things.

Each and every one of those items was made, built, or brought to you by an entrepreneur. You see, I am a valuable person, and I wouldn't start labeling me greedy. Entrepreneurs have done more to bring our civilization into the status of being the greatest nation ever created in the history of mankind, then any other group of people in our country.

The reality is that socialist-Liberal voters are much more greedy than any entrepreneur capitalist ever was in my opinion. How so you ask? Simple, I worked my butt off every single day to bring things to market so that you will have them, and for that I expect nothing more than what I charge, if you don't like the price you don't have to buy it, if I charge too much you won't buy it, and I'll be out of business, I will lose everything including my investment and all my capital. I have a lot at risk to bring you those items.

Now then, the socialist-Liberal voter, well, all they have to do is go down to the polls and vote for some schmuck [opinion] who stood behind a podium and promised them free stuff, and that politician will create laws to tax me be entrepreneur, so the government will then have the right to steal from me and give that money to you the socialist voter.

Indeed, I'd say that's pretty greedy to employ your government to come steal from me. I'd also say it's pretty lazy that you don't have the honor to come steal from me personally - rather you would hide behind a politician, who hides behind a podium, who promises you stuff, money, etc, that is not yours, stuff that's mine, and I earned.

Now then, I could tell you where to go, but no one would publish this article if I did. But you know where you can go - you can go back to the polls and vote for someone that actually made a payroll at some point in their life to be your next elected representative. Please consider all this.

From Iron To Steel - The History Of Iron And Why It's So Popular In Wrought Iron Designs And Decor

Most of what we learn in high school history about Thomas

Edison is all about his successful inventions. Thomas Edison

electricity, the phonograph, and on and on.

We know that Thomas Edison held over 1,093 patents for

a number of different types of inventions. What we don't know or we very seldom hear is about his failures. One of the most noted failures was his inability to find an

effective way to mine iron ore.

Iron is the cheapest and most common metal available for

mining. Iron is used for making steel. Steel, at the time

that Edison was working on his invention, was very expensive.

The world now and during the life of Edison is very dependent

on steel.

If Edison was successful in creating the extraction process

he would have earned billions of dollars in income,

The possibilities that would extend from that success

would also create millions of jobs, and spur other

inventions.

Iron is useless in its pure form. Iron is brittle and cannot be used to manufacture any products because of this

and other characteristics. Iron in its pure form is a

silver color. The gray that we see in iron comes from

combining iron with oxygen. But iron is not adaptable to

any practical applications on its own.

That is why the discovery of an effective extraction process

was important. Edison worked on this extraction process

from 1880 to 1890. For over ten years, he performed experiments,

hired scientist, and other experts to perfect his extraction

process. The impetus was to provide iron ore to the Pennsylvania

steel mills.

Edison moved his office from a comfortable building to actually

work in the old iron mines to find an economical process to satisfy

the insatiable demands for steel . The testing and processing of

his experiments was very expensive. To finance his invention

Edison sold all his stock in General Electric. His heirs still

regret that to this day.

Edison was never able to find a way to extract the iron from unusable,

low grade ores. Edison eventually abandoned the project. He never

recouped his money that he had invested. Fortunately for Edison,

he continued his work on the phonograph and motion pictures,

and remained financially intact.

Finding a cheaper way to produce steel was not only important to the

financial enhancement of Edison but important to the American

economy. After 1840 the American iron industry was experiencing

a revitalization but American was not the major steel producer in

the world.

In 1844, government surveyors found a large iron ore deposit of

anthracite in the Great Lakes area. Pennsylvania became the nation's

leading supplier of iron and steel. With the discovery of the rich

iron ore around Lake Superior and the ability to transport the

bounty the mine produce by water, Pennsylvania became the center

of American iron and steel production.

British engineer Henry Bessemer perfected a steel extraction

process. He completed the work that Thomas Edison had started.

Bessemer developed an iron smelting process that made it possible

to produce large quantities of steel. Some manufacturers of steel

use his process to this day.

The invention was an economical and an efficient process to make

steel from iron ore. But a better process was introduced

By Abram S. Hewitt who became a steel magnate that rivaled

Andrew Carnegie was the first American to try the Bessemer

process. He then improved on the process to develop the

the open-hearth converter. American steel makers preferred

the process of Hewitt to that of Bessemer.

The low cost of steel production after this discovery

changed the balance for American industries. American

Industry could now lead the world in steel production.

In 1873 the United States, produced nearly 115,000

tons of steel. As the price of steel continued to drop,

It was possible to use steel in several industries.

Over 70% of the finished steel that is produced in

the United states goes to automotive industry.

Broadcast Interviews Sell Books and Every Author Should Take Advantage

Most of you who are reading this article probably have never stood in front of a microphone and can't believe they will be chosen for an interview on radio or TV.

Admittedly, unless you are fortunate enough to have a local TV station, chances are your appearances, at least early-on, will be limited to radio. But with the ever-increasing influence talk radio has had on syndicated shows and on Web radio, opportunities to reach large audiences are easily available to you.

Making It Easy

One of the great benefits of talk radio is the fact that you do not have to be present in the studio to be interviewed. Most shows are either taped or performed live with the interviewee sitting at a telephone at home possibly still dressed in his/her pajamas. The one major caveat is do not use a cell phone for this purpose. A landline is much clearer and reduces the possibility that connections will be lost.

Start small by booking interviews with small, local talk shows. These will introduce you to the medium, and will give you the opportunity to hone your broadcast skills as you climb up the ladder to larger local shows, then to regionals and finally to some of the bigger syndicated shows that have a national reach.

Don't dismiss these smaller local broadcasts. Many success stories have started on one of them. Producers of larger shows often listen to them in the car or elsewhere in an attempt to find new talent to interview on their show.

Also be alert to stations or niche talk shows that concentrate heavily on your special subject. Finding a program that targets your niche audience is far more effective than using a larger station with many more listeners, most of whom are not particularly interested in your topic.

Preparing for the Interview

It is always wise to try and listen to several editions of the show on which you are booked. That way you can get a far better sense of its format and the style of the program host. It will help you create a list of potential questions that you might be asked. That will help you plan answers that are relevant, intelligent and to the point. This exercise will make you much more comfortable when the actual interview begins.

If you haven't been booked, the exercise is extremely beneficial because it will help you frame a meaningful letter with precise points about which you are able to talk effectively. That kind of professionalism will impress the producer. You may want to present the topics as individual bulleted points.

Many authors submit a Press Kit along with the cover letter, and include the list of talking points. You will be surprised to find how many hosts actually use your listing as the guide for the interview. That is particularly true when you stress the way in which the show's listeners will benefit from what you say. Producers and hosts also appreciate a author who speaks passionately about the subjects he/she writes on.

On Air

It is extremely helpful if you are able to hire a professional media trainer before you begin broadcasting. However, they usually are expensive and many authors simply train themselves by continuously practicing until the subject is second nature and they are able to speak fluently and without hesitation on it. That way you avoid wandering off point or hesitating before you answer. Performing in front of a mirror is very helpful if you are headed to a TV interview.

When you go on air, it is important to recognize that listeners are far more interested in you than they are in the book you have written. As an author of a book they have read or one they have heard about, they want to learn who you are and what you think about many different issues.

Don't overwhelm, the listener with talk about your book. Of course, you should mention the book from time to time, but wherever possible, do it obliquely. You don't want the interview to sound like a sales pitch. More than that, a good host will cut you off if you dwell too much on praises of your work.

A number of studies have demonstrated that listeners tend to buy your book if they like you as an individual. So if you sell anything, sell yourself by offering crisp, meaningful answers delivered with a real sense of confidence. Not cocky. Not boastful. Just self-assured.

After the Interview

Be certain to thank the host when the interview ends. Send a note of thanks to the host and one to the producer who arranged the interview. Radio personnel frequently socialize and talk about their experiences. There's a good chance you may be touted to another host or producer, if you spoke well and left graciously. At the very least, you might even be invited back again.

So you see, the microphone is not a fearsome machine. If you prepare adequately and practice what you plan to say, your performance will be relaxed, light and informative. It's just that easy to take advantage of this superb promotional tool.

Pendulistic Progress - An Essay About Personal Progress and Gardening

"Oh, grow up." When we overheard this, even though we knew it was about asking someone to become "mature" the term seemed broader in its meaning implications. Of course at the beginning of the growing season one always wants the seeds and transplants to "grow up" become mature so that they can be used and useful as was the plan when they were planted.

We have watched our local Farmers market "grow up" from its initial small beginning to the well organized, well supported, and continuing to grow marketplace of fresh produce that it is today.

We have seen our community "grow up" and become an area of creativity and a joint expression of those who have been here a long time and those who are newly arrived.

We have aided, in our own small way, to New Mexico becoming a state with many small farms and gardens, which have been the impetus for the state to "grow up" as a forerunner of what, can be seen as, a possible model of local food production.

"Grow up" becomes an exhortation of a literal nature from Dr. Dickson Despommier, Professor of Public Health at Columbia University. In 1999, he began creating "living towers", structures in urban areas which could feed 50,000 people organically and without transportation costs. This same concept won the Green Building Contest in 2007 for downtown Seattle.

"Grow up" to the National Wildlife Federation means go grow a portion of your land back to where it was before lawns turned suburban development into a monoculture. The Backyard Wildlife Habitat program certifies homeowners who "provide friendly environments for small mammals, birds, butterflies, and reptiles". One of the main requests of the program is to raise native plants and trees that will eventually grow to provide a natural food and shelter for indigenous species.

There is a trend in urban areas for residents to want to "grow up" and be more self-reliant. National magazines of late have carried stories about those who have converted their front yards into vegetable gardens, retaining the backyard - the traditional garden space - for family personal use. The good thing about front yard gardening is that it is seen by more people, embedding the idea as they drive or walk by. The community garden concept has been around for some time, yet has never been able to grow up to its full potential.

Although we are wary of the overuse of the term "green", it is encouraging that there is now a channel on television called Green that covers building green and other areas of green concern. Maybe our communications system will finally "grow up" and provide the masses with the vital information needed to grow up a culture concerned with something more than consumerism.

The meniscus inscribed by the swing of a pendulum has an infinite number of points between the apexes. Once awakening upon one of these points, we can place our progress as on the beginning down swing, somewhere on the bottom, awaiting to rise to the next level, or at that apex of change in which we recognize the movement and the opportunities growing in that trend.

It is not hard to get caught up in the dark reports we are given each day through the media, but in truth, it is a small black patch on a great white canvas, that is waiting for us to enhance with color and life. There is not one brush wielded by society - each individual has his own brush with which he can give old facts a new look. All we need to do is grow up.

Settling For Second Best

First of all I want to thank all of the readers that responded to last weeks article about my Mother. The show of concern, support, and words of encouragement let me know I have a lot of good friends out there. Again thanks, it means a lot to me.

I've been thinking about this week's topic quite a bit over the years. Now seems like a great time to discuss it. When did we in America start settling for second best much less 37th in things like quality of healthcare compared to the rest of the world?

We didn't settle for second best during WWII. It was our superior ability to produce war materials and the best-trained men and women in the world that won the war. We didn't dominate the auto industry for decades because we settled for second best, yet we now find our major car manufacturers going bankrupt. We didn't settle for second best when we went to the moon, found the Titanic, discovered penicillin, the phone, the phonograph, or many hundreds of other first's America is noted for.

But yet we now find ourselves settling for just what we can get as a people. Granted, I'm speaking in a broad generality. We still have some very successful and rich people in our country. How they got there is the subject for another day. It's been my observation that we as individuals have settled for second best cars, advertising, clothing, customer service, politicians, leaders, you name it for far too long. We have also allowed ourselves to become second best on a personal level. We, as a people, have lost our pride in a job well done; we have lost the shame of being less than stellar. We have decided on an individual level to just settle for some instead of all. Again, I'm talking in broad general terms here; if the shoe doesn't fit please don't wear it.

I'm not talking greed here. I'm talking mediocrity. When we do something do we do it with all our ability, talent and energy? Believe me, I'm talking to myself here as well. Do we give or all to our customers, our friends, our family, and our community? Do we give of ourselves 110% no matter what it is? We've become a nation of "used to was". We look back at our glory days and sit on our couches. We have become mesmerized with the vast amounts of entertainment that flows into our heads each day. We have lost the drive that made us once a great nation. We are just coasting now.

It's true, our leaders MUST set the example and lead the way, but we must get off our butts and stop settling for second best and demand better from them. We all can make the choice to be the best we can be. I know that sounds so cliché, but its true. We have the power as individuals to make this nation No. 1 once again. We can dominate the global green movement with new technologies that we invent, develop and market. We can reclaim the auto industry as our own. We can start building things once again in this country that will revolutionize the global lifestyle. We have what it takes we just need to do it! We need to stop making life a tagline we wear on our T-shirts and start living the dream. I challenge each and everyone one of you, as well as myself, to stop settling for second best and start reaching for the stars again.
