Iran Will Be the Number One Problem for the United States of America in 2012

Iran will be the number one problem for the USA in 2012. If Obama can handle this situation with soft gloves, then he'll show he is unbeatable in the 2012 elections when it comes to foreign policy. Iran can influence the progress in Iraq, cut the world's oil supplies and they have two powerful allies in Russia and China.

Iraq is a situation that could evaporate at the snap of a finger. After 10 years of fighting in Iraq, the US military has finally left the country and Iraq is in charge of protection themselves. Although this is the case, the US still have private contractors to protect the largest US Embassy in the world along with the CIA, FBI and other intelligence operations. The US Embassy is in the perfect locations, close the Iran border. The number of people participating in these operations are around 16,000.

Iraq's Sunni and Shiite are divided about the direction of the country, this could soon cause a civil war in Iraq. Iran is a majority Shi'a, this is the same for northern Iraq. In a civil war, foreign policy experts think Iran could easily influence the Shiite of Iraq to join Iran to over-through the government and combine Iran with northern Iraq. This could be devastating considered over 1 million soldiers from the USA served in Iraq with over 4000+ dead and 35,000+ injured. These death and injuries could all be for nothing, but who would people blame. Some would blame George W. Bush for deploying our military into Iraq, some will blame Obama for ending the war too soon, but I think ending our longest war is better than staying another 10 years. If Iran plays their cards correctly, they could really have a major influence on northern Iraq.

Iran and their influence on the world oil supplies could be disastrous for the world economy. The US threatened to imposes new sanctions targeting Tehran's oil exports. Of course Iran is not a big fan of these new sanctions, so they threatened to close the strait, which is the only sea outlet for the crucial oil fields in and around the Persian Gulf.

In responds to the threat, the US deployed the 5th fleet into the region. The good news is the Gulf Arab nations has promised to make up the difference so the oil supplies are on par.

Iran is the world's fourth-largest oil producer, with an output of about 4 million barrels of oil a day. It relies on oil exports for about 80 percent of its public revenues. So, if Iran follow through with their plan then you can see the impact the could have on the world's supply. Also, Iran in more aggressive b/c they're close to having a nuclear weapon if they don't already have one.

Iran can push the envelope b/c they have powerful allies in China and Russia. Some experts say that either Russia or China has helped them develop nuclear weapons. Russia has had a huge stock pile of nuclear warheads since the end of the USSR. The past 23 years, people think Russia has sold nuclear weapons to terrorist or rogue nations. Russia continues to find oil partners around the world and they don't care about the direction of the government. This is strange b/c Russia is very strong in the petroleum industry according to the EIA (US Energy Information Administration):

The petroleum industry in Russia is one of the largest in the world. Russia has the largest reserves, and is the largest exporter, of natural gas. It has the second largest coal reserves, the eighth largest oil reserves, and is the largest exporter of oil. It is the third largest energy user.

Russia is the largest oil producer in the world, producing an average of 9.93 million barrels (1,579,000 m3) of oil per day in 2009 for a total of 494.2 million tons. It produces 12% of the world's oil and has a same share in global oil exports. The Russian oil industry is in need of huge investment. Strong growth in the Russian economy means that local demand for energy of all types (oil, gas, nuclear, coal, hydro, electricity) is continuing to grow.

China is a different case, China has over three billion people. China is growing at a 9% GDP pace, so they need energy and land. China continues to ignore the sanction put into place by the western nations. China believe in their own survival, so dealing with Iran is in their best interest. This is a major problem for the USA. If the USA needed to attack Iran then which side would Russia and China be on...Iran or the western nations. China has the number one growing middle class, economy and growing influence in the world. A clash of the titans is inevitable.

2012 is very important in shaping the future in Iran. As long as they produce a nuclear weapon and they have powerful allies then Iran will continue to be a thorn in the side of the USA. Iran will challenge everything Obama does b/c they know if Obama is out of the White House and a new president is elected then they'll have an extra year plus to spread their agenda. No president would be crazy enough to send troop into Iran unless they want a regional civil war (Syria, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Jordan, etc.). This is why soft gloves are the key to controlling Iran, the use of force only embolden Iran causing a black hole of destruction in the region.

Flat Wedding Shoes Are The Brides Number One Choice

Some women wear stilettos confidently. They wear them to work, to the shopping mall and just about anywhere they go. For these ladies choosing high heels or platform shoes for a wedding would make perfect sense. However there are many other women who aren't comfortable wearing shoes with five inch heels on them. Fortunately for these ladies there is a huge selection of flat wedding shoes on the market today. These shoes are a fabulous alternative to stilettos and platform shoes.

Individuals may choose wedding shoes with high heels because they seem more fitting for the occasion. However, because of the demand for flat shoes, designers have come up with many interesting and formal designs. There are flats on the market which are very decorative with appliqués, ribbons and rhinestones. There are also accessories designed to attach to wedding shoes to make them look formal and appropriate for fancy events such as weddings.

When referring to flat wedding shoes the spectrum goes far beyond a basic closed-toe shoe. This style of wedding shoes could include sandals, pumps, ballet shoes and even flip-flops. Yes shoe manufacturers are now producing wedding flip-flops. Each of these shoe styles can be bought in a variety of designs. When choosing wedding shoes with no heel, the possibilities are endless.

Flat shoes are suitable for any individual attending a wedding. Many brides wear flat shoes because they are comfortable and they simply feel better than heels. Flat shoes are perfect for the young girls in the bridal party like flower girls or junior bridesmaids. There are some very cute flat wedding shoes on the market for young girls today. High heels and platforms are not really suitable for little girls. Not only would they be uncomfortable but they'd be unsafe as well.

When shopping for wedding shoes it's beneficial to realize there are dyeable types on the market as well. To ensure all female members of the bridal party are similarly dressed, their shoes could be dyed the same color. There are also flat wedding shoes on the market made from various materials. It may be possible to find them made from the same material as the bridesmaid's gowns, for example silk or satin.

Shopping for wedding shoes is not at the top of everyone's list when planning to attend a wedding. It does require consideration however at some point. If deciding on flat wedding shoes the hunt shouldn't wait until last minute, especially if hoping to find them in a local shopping mall or shoe store. No doubt they'll carry a selection of wedding shoes but it may be limited. The best shopping center for fabulous wedding shoes at reasonable prices is the Internet. Shopping online not only provides access to shoe stores nationally but internationally. This worldwide access provides a much larger variety of designs and styles. If hoping to find flat shoes similar to those seen in a magazine or on a television fashion show, the Internet is the best possible opportunity.

Bloggers Breaking an Increasing Number of News Stories

Today you see the beginning of a new era: the era of the news blogger. In the beginning, blogging was all about chronicling your life and your opinion. People would read your blog to see into your personal life. It was like reading someone's personal diary. Today, blogging has evolved into a news business for many.

People can make money from running a blog. So it is only natural that people extend blogging into reporting and breaking news from their perspective. Bloggers have started doing this to drive more people to their blog. With more people reading a blog, the higher the advertising revenue.

Bloggers do not generally go through the usual fact-checking process that traditional news outlets do. Some bloggers listen to and rewrite the rumor mill just to generate new content. It is those bloggers who produce stories rather than reports that often gain the most readers. They claim to report something when in reality is often nothing more than well-written speculation.

One advantage that bloggers have over news sites is that they do not have to abide by an organization's standards and political views. The can have full poetic license with the words they write. As a journalist you aspire to bringing the nation to their knees for a big promotion with. For a blogger, the returns are more direct. Many bloggers benefit directly from increased traffic in the form of advertising revenue. "Exposing the ugly truth" often becomes the motive for many bloggers without regard to the long-term consequences.

News sites put more care into reporting trending news. It has always been and will continue to be in their long-term interests to do so. At the middle of any news story is the integrity of the facts and writing. Any reporter who has compromised these will have a much more difficult time writing compelling, believable news moving forward with the same of different organization.

Blogs are a great thing. They allow people to share their views with others around the world, creating an ever-growing source of information that you can sometimes trust. But be sure to take your individual blog reads with a grain of salt. Nobody has come up with a solution that holds bloggers the more stringent set of standards that the news sites have been held to. Given how fast technology evolves and often catches us by surprise, perhaps that will be the next big thing.

While many people read trending news from blogs, an increasing number are using news aggregators. A simple Google search can help you discover which fits your needs.

Barry Bonds and Home Run Number 756

Will Barry Bonds reach the 756 home run mark and eclipse Hammerin' Hank Aaron? The controversial Barry Bonds certainly is a baseball legend in his own mind, but does he have enough star quality and MLB cache to keep him in the baseball limelight? Is he a has been or someone who should be a has been? The question many people are asking is simply this one-- is Barry Bonds washed up? Many people believe it is time for Bonds to hang up his cleats. He has been injury plagued the last couple of seasons and has also been involved in Major League Baseball's steroid controversy. In the past the slugger has admitted that he's used steroids and contends that the drugs were administered unwittingly. Despite his use of performance enhancing drugs, there is no question that he has been one of the game's most productive players.

Barry Bonds is chasing perhaps the greatest mark of them all-- the all-time Major League Baseball home run record. Currently Hank Aaron, who has 755, is the one that fans admire. Bonds also trails Babe Ruth, who accumulated 715 dingers.

He will start this season at 708 and will need either one outstanding year or two extremely productive ones to break the record. Many experts believe with the injuries he's sustained over the past few seasons it will be hard for him to reach the plateau set by Aaron. Another problem with Bonds setting a new lifetime home run mark is that people believe it will not be a true record because the slugger used steroids.

If he does become the most prolific long ball hitter to ever stand at home plate, there will be some contending that he cheated in order to do so. Critics will claim that during some of his most productive seasons he was on steroids and could not have hit that many home runs without "the juice." It's not that Bonds didn't have any ability; he was and still is a gifted athlete. The question is because he whacked at least some of his homers while on steroids will people respect the record the same way they have for Ruth and Aaron. That is the big question.

Bonds will definitely be in the spotlight regardless of what he does this season. As long as he continues to play, the story of him chasing Ruth and then Aaron's record will be a hot baseball topic this season and possibly next.

The fact that he plays half of his games in San Francisco's hitter friendly AT&T Park certainly favors Bonds accomplishing this goal. But he also has things working against him. Most pitchers will try to throw around him, not giving Bonds very much at which to swing. As the season wears on, this will affect him both physically and mentally.

Bonds has complained in the past about how many walks he receives and how they take a toll on his legs. Another problem that may prevent Bonds from breaking the home run record is that he's in the National League and is required to play the field. He has indicated he would like to stay with the San Francisco Giants and will refuse a trade to an American League (AL) team. If he were to go to an AL team, it could prolong his career because he would be able to be a designated hitter and would not be required to play the field.

He has said that San Francisco is his home and he will retire before he's traded to another team. There is no question that this season he'll be under scrutiny, and if he doesn't produce the media will be all over him. Reporters may ask if he is over the hill, unable to go long without steroids, or if he can possibly stay healthy enough to finish his quest for the record.

The fact remains that Barry Bonds is going for the record and baseball fans will certainly be watching to see if he can do it. If he closes in on the mark, there will probably be sellout crowds in stadiums across the United States hoping to catch a home run ball from the remarkable Bonds. He will have many obstacles to overcome if he is going to accomplish this great feat.

One thing is certain it will be interesting to see if he has the stamina to hold on long enough to break the record. If he fails there will be people saying he should have retired at the top of his game and not have come back to try to break the record. Fans of home run fever will be tuning in the watch the saga of Barry Bonds.

Granny's Cure Number 83

90% of everything that we read is false. I read that somewhere. If we take that statement to be true, which lets face it, is taking a chance, then how do we trust anything that we read. When people back their arguments up with book-learned information we can just say, "yeah, well, your uncle is a donkey" and actually stand a chance of having that be just as relevant. It makes rather a good point about perspective and connotation and seeing only what you want to see and believing only what you want to believe. No wonder the world is full of such confusion, no one has their facts straight.

All this mass confusion leads to miscommunication and miscommunication leads to misunderstanding. It's like a global game of broken telephone, except sometimes what you get at the other end isn't always funny. Sometimes it can be deadly, especially when it deals with cancer and the myths surrounding its causes.

On http://www.cancer.gov they list some myths, a truth and a case unproven. The myths are

1) Commercial artificial sweeteners can cause cancer: in 1969 the Food and Drug Administration banned the sweetener cyclamate because there were rumours that it caused cancer. These days, rumours continue to plague the sweeteners saccharine and aspartame but research has found no link between them and cancer.
2) Fluoridated water causes cancer: Centres for Disease Control and Prevention have found "no credible evidence" that fluoride in water causes cancer.
3) Antiperspirants/Deodorants cause Breast Cancer: it has been claimed that chemicals found in antiperspirants and deodorants are absorbed through nicks and cuts in the skin and cause breast cancer. The National cancer Institute and The FDA have found no proof of this.
4) Coral calcium is effective in the treatment of cancer: marine coral is a dietary supplement which has been touted as a cure or treatment for cancer and other chronic ailments but there is no scientific evidence to back this claim up.

The truth is that grilled or pan fried meat does increase the risk of cancer. The grilling process causes harmful chemicals, called heterocyclimamines, which are carcinogenic, to be released. It is recommended that you keep your grilled meat portions down to a minimum or try marinating meat or precooking it in the microwave oven first. The unproven theory is that magnetic field exposure causes cancer. This includes electro magnetic fields produced from power lines, televisions, cell phones, microwaves etc. Numerous studies have been undertaken to try and correlate electro magnetic fields to brain cancer, leukemias, lymphomas and breast cancer but none have been conclusive. Nevertheless it is recommended that you try to limit your exposure to these devices.

It appears that everyone has their own set of "top 10 Myths about cancer". Here are some that belong to http://health.discovery.com

10) What you do as a young adult will not affect your chances of getting cancer in later life: the reality is that your diet, level of physical activity, sun exposure and whether or not you smoke all influence your cancer odds in late adulthood.
9) There is a cancer cure available but the medical industry is hiding it because they are making so much money from treating people: there is not one type of cancer, so there cannot be one overriding cure, also people are being cured from cancer all the time, so that is pure bunkum.
8) Cell phones cause cancer. We covered that one above. No conclusive evidence but try to limit your exposure.
7) Do injuries cause cancer later in life? No they do not, often while people are getting their injuries checked out a tumour may be found, but the injury did not cause it.
6) Between air pollution and smoking which is worst? Its not air pollution. Even inhaling second hand on a fairly regular basis is worse for you than the air pollution of an average American city.
5) Surgery causes cancer to spread: Sometimes surgery has been left too late and then the cancer has spread too far for anything to be done about it. But these day's surgeons know how to operate without causing the cancer to spread and they operate only when it is necessary to do so.
4) Bug spray causes cancer. This claim is not supported by any available evidence. Besides, household bug spray is used in concentrations that are too low to do any damage whatsoever.
3) Applying sunscreen once a day prevents skin cancer: sunscreen needs to be reapplied several times a day for it to be effective.

2) Harmful chemicals in grilled meats. Covered above.
1) The risk of dying of cancer in the US is increasing: that is the perception because more and more people are being diagnosed with cancer but in reality fewer than half those diagnosed with cancer these days will die from it.

Finally there is http://www.cancer.about.com/od/causes/tp/cancermyths.htm which has

1) Hair dye causes brain cancer
2) Cell phones cause cancer
3) If your mom and dad had cancer you will get cancer, which may not necessarily be true but is not necessarily a myth either. Cancer can be genetic in some cases; your chances of getting cancer are increased, depending on the cancer, if one of your parents had it, so it's best to be careful.
4) Cancer causes hair loss, it is not the cancer, it is the treatment that causes your hair to fall out.
5) Only women get breast cancer: men get it too, its just not as talked about.
6) There is a cure but they are hiding it. Covered that above.
7) Cancer is almost always fatal. Covered that too.
8) Antiperspirants and deodorants cause cancer. Covered it.
9) Some types of cancer are contagious. No cancers are contagious, honestly. Please feel free to touch and hug and kiss and share to your hearts content.
10) Positive thinking will cure cancer. Ah, this could actually be quite contentious because I am dead sure that there are people out there who would swear, hand on heart that positive thinking cured them when nothing else would. Lets us say that positive thinking is extremely important in the healing process, that it speeds the process up some and that it keeps the depression at bay.

But 90% of this article is lies anyway so you can believe what you want to.

The Number One Problem Managers Face in Hiring a Workplace Violence Consultant For Employee Training

In today's increasingly violent world, workplace violence has come to the forefront for human resources managers, as-well-as risk management and crisis management directors. More and more companies are realizing that their plans for dealing with violence in the workplace are missing the necessary training to help employees avoid, escape from, or survive an actual workplace violence attack. This article not only sheds light on the number one problem that these concerned managers and executives face in their attempt to provide this critical and life-saving training, but also the best way to guarantee you get what you need.

Current statistics paint a grim picture of the state of today's workplaces. While many people believe that workplace violence is a uniquely "American-thing," the fact is that violence in the workplace knows no cultural, ethnic, or national boundaries. I've personally spoken with executives, managers, administrators, and business owners from all over the world and have found that workplace violence is an international problem.

While there are still many myths circulating about workplace violence, their is a problem faced by those directors, managers, and administrators who "are" looking for solid, dependable, and workable training solutions for their employees. Regardless of whether they "Google-it," ask for referrals, or conduct other research, the problem only seems to increase with every contact, call, or click of a mouse.

What is this problem?

How difficult could it be for corporate managers and leaders - people who have access to literally a world of knowledge - to find the kind of training that will protect property, save lives, and reduce, rather than increase, liability issues during a violent, physical attack in their business?

What could be their biggest problem? What could be the primary factor which prevents them from taking action, and thereby allowing the clock tick down to the increased possibility of an incident occurring by, or to, one or more of their employees?

If you happen to be one of these leaders, you already know what I'm going to say. If you're not, or you haven't given the problem of workplace violence much thought in your business, perhaps this will give you something to think about when you decide to make this area of risk and crisis management and liability-control a priority for you and the people that you're responsible for.

So, what is this problem?

The problem faced by most managers who are actually looking for self-defense training that they can add to their employee training package is this:

Finding a qualified, professional trainer who has the real-world experience in both handling real-world dangers, "and" the sensitivities of the business world with regards to liability and legal responsibility.

The typical question, aside from, "who's qualified," being asked by concerned human resources and other managers responsible for this type of training is:

With all of the web sites, all of the companies, and all of the consultants who say they specialize in workplace violence prevention and solutions, "Who Do You Trust?"

They know that hiring a trainer or consultant who specializes in physical self-defense programs is not the same as hiring say, a sales trainer. They know that if they hire any other trainer or consultant, and down the road they find that the information offered doesn't meet expectations or doesn't work at all, that they can simply hire another one.

But, what happens if you hire a workplace violence defensive tactics consultant to train your employees or produce your training program and then, you find out that the material was ineffective? When will you learn about your mistake in judgment?

You'll find out the only time you can - during an actual attack situation - after it's too late to make changes.

So, how do you find the right expert or company to meet your needs? You do what you always do: you look for experience.

But, the experience you're looking for isn't in how many companies they've worked for, how big their consultancy is, or even if they're a karate black belt of whatever degree. No. The experience you're looking for is the same experience that should be sought, even when hiring the sales trainer, and that is in how successful this person has been using "their own" information.

If you want to make sure that you and your people are learning from the best choice, thereby giving you the best chance of survival, then you want to hire a consultant who has actual, real-world experience in dealing with, and surviving, attacks from the same types of threats that you are exposed to. Period.

Regardless of research, college degrees, corporate work experience, or even martial arts training, your best choice for surviving a workplace violence attack, is hiring a consultant who understands both the threat and the solution.

Negativity - The Number One Productivity Problem

Backstabbing, gossip, power struggles, worry and stress are signs that negativity has invaded your workplace. The end result is turnover, absenteeism, and low morale.

Now before you roll your eyes and say that all this attitude stuff is just touchy feely, let me present the facts.

The Facts

Fact #1. It may not be healthy to be negative but it's natural. Human beings think over 60,000 thoughts per day and 85% of those thoughts are negative. Think about the little voice in your head cursing traffic or saying things like, "I dread going to work," or "I can't stand my co-workers."

Fact #2. What you focus on expands. Cognitive scientists and neuron-psychologists know that the brain actually changes as a result of where a person focuses his thinking. Negative habits create more negativity and positive thoughts create happier feelings which lead to health.

Fact #3. Feeling good is good for your health. The American Heart Association reports that feelings of appreciation increases circulation and smooth cardiovascular rhythms. Also, recalling an angry experience can negatively affect the immune system for as much as six hours? Illness due to headaches cost $50 billion annually in medical expenses and absenteeism according to the National Health Foundation. Employees have a difficult time producing when there is negativity and ill will in the workplace.

Fact #4. Relationships are either a source of renewal or a source of drama. It's a fact, the number one reason an employee leaves a company is due to poor relationships with his direct supervisors. It is a fact that over 90 percent of workplace problems are people related. The Gallup organization found that no single factor more clearly predicts the productivity of an employee than the relationship with his direct supervisor.

Drama in the workplace hampers productivity and the number one problem in most workplaces is negativity and stress.

Number of Supermarkets Serving Densely Populated NJ-NY Region Tempered by Land Constraints

Despite the high population density of New Jersey and New York, both states have fewer supermarkets per 100,000 residents than other areas of the country, and questions not directly related to retail demand are likely the reason. Regulatory issues and the general scarcity of land are the key considerations.

Defined as stores with at least $2 million in annual sales and approximately 1,500 products, supermarkets offer a full line of grocery, health-related, canned or non-food items plus perishable products. New Jersey, which has the highest population density and second highest median income of any state in the United States, has 8.5 supermarkets per 100,000 residents compared with the national average of 11.6 per 100,000. New York also trails behind.

Supermarkets play a key role in the pursuit of high-quality, yet affordable, nutrition, as well as shopping convenience. Most modern supermarkets provide 'one-stop' shopping alternatives where constituents can find food and health and beauty products. As a result, consumers have renewed their loyalty to neighborhood supermarkets, which offer competitive pricing, a full range of product choices, organic and fresh foods, as well as pharmaceutical products.

These local centers of commerce provide communities with much-needed convenience services and goods in close proximity to diverse residential neighborhoods, which range from urban high-rise apartment complexes to suburban one- and two-family homes. Instead of traveling lengthy distances to purchase food items, first aid supplies or household cleaners, savvy shoppers value the competitive pricing as well as reduced travel time and decreased gasoline expenses associated with a local supermarket.

As a significant and sustainable segment of any retail business sector, supermarkets offer longevity and are a major source of employment. While jobs have plummeted in certain sectors, such as manufacturing, millions of people are employed by more than 35,000 supermarkets nationwide. In New Jersey, over 67,000 men, women and young adults earn a combined total of more than $1.5 billion in wages annually. Typically, benefits for supermarket employees include health coverage, pension options and career advancement opportunities. In addition to earning their wages locally, employees also tend to spend their money locally.

Not only do supermarkets offer job creation, growth and retention, they also inject much-needed tax ratables into the economy and serve as the catalyst for revitalization. Geographic sections of northern and central New Jersey and southern New York State are prime areas for supermarket growth right now because of an influx of residents. In Somerset County, N.J., the addition of more than 4,000 new homes and a population boom of 8,000+ residents led to the development and opening of a new 70,000-square-foot supermarket through the efforts of Crossroads Companies, the developer. The finishing touches are now being added to an additional 43,000 square feet of retail space on an adjacent site with a free-standing 4,000-square-foot bank branch opened this past May.

There is a clear need and high demand in certain areas for prominent supermarkets and reputable owners/operators who have a demonstrated track-record for success and corporate citizenship. One such area where a new supermarket is rising is Stony Point, N.Y., where Crossroads is developing a 92,000-square-foot neighborhood shopping center. Crossroads notes that a recent study indicated the area's 48,800 residents were traveling beyond this northern part of Rockland County for not only their groceries, but automobiles, home furnishings, restaurant dining and appliances.

As of this fall, Stony Point will discover the newfound convenience associated with having a 70,000-square-foot ShopRite, with additional service and lifestyle-oriented tenants occupying 22,000 square feet of retail space, literally just around the corner. This particular project also has attracted interest among highly desirable local, regional and national retailers due to its location within a designated Empire Zone, a New York State-sponsored economic development and stimulus program.

Revitalization of inner cities, as well as suburban shopping centers impacted by the difficult economic environment, and in particular the bankruptcy of many category killers, such as electronic, apparel, and bookstores would also benefit from the redevelopment of existing, vacant shopping centers. Many communities desire healthy food choices including organic meats, vegetables, produce and similar related products that often can only be provided in stores with a larger supermarket footprint. The lack of tracts of land large enough to accommodate a modern food store, as well as environmentally "clean" land available for development has lead retailers and builders to explore underutilized sites such as brownfields, odd-shaped and smaller lots with deck or below-grade parking. The fact that developers and food anchor tenants are willing to consider non-conforming sites reflects an imbalance between supply and demand, as a result of aforementioned factors. The end result is that costs associated with building new supermarkets are often more expensive, and time consuming, pushing out an already lengthy entitlement process that can exceed 24 to 36 months.

The ultimate solution is more intelligent planning and coordination between private developers and municipalities to put underutilized tracts of land back on the assessment roles. Local and state governments can also assist by speeding up the approval process. While legislators and citizens have every right to demand that developers be sensitive to environmental and land planning concerns, municipalities and state legislators attract private development and supermarket chains by eliminating unnecessary red-tape and bureaucratic in-fighting. If we continue on the same path, local economies and their constituents will suffer as businesses seek more friendly business environments. Higher pricing for food, clothing and shelter is inevitable, if the cost of land and regulatory environment prevent supply from keeping up with demand.

We know that people in many poor or developing nations suffer from malnutrition. There is no need for pills or potions to grow taller, as few if any of these really work, and they may even have undesirable side effects. So, in order to improve the overall level of growth hormones in your body, then try improving your diet, in order to trigger the proper distribution of HGH.

So a proper diet, with sufficient protein, carbohydrates, amino acids, and minerals will help your body to achieve its maximum height until you reach your early 20s -- women tend to stop growing a little sooner than men -- but on average, that is it. Beyond that, you can increase the overall appearance of height, if not your actual height, by doing exercises to strengthen your bones and lengthen the spine. A combination of stretching and strengthening exercises, then, is still the best way to enhance your height, once you have reached maturity. Exercise has the added benefit of reducing your chances for back problems -- the number one health complaint, aside from the common cold -- once you reach your late 20s and beyond.

By selecting the correct exercises, and the following an exercise schedule, you will enhance the level of HGH in your body. You still need to encourage a balanced diet in your daily routine as well, so that your body produces and distributes HGH in sufficient quantity. Avoiding large amounts of processed sugar, caffeine, and junk food also promotes increased body health and may contribute to increased body height.

How to grow taller, naturally, then, does not involve taking medicines, as there are scientifically proven methods to encourage bone mass and strength, primarily involving exercise and rest.

Let's Please Place Job Creation As Number One

I noticed the day after President Obama's big jobs speech before Congress on September 8 that Mark Zandi, the often cited Chief Economist from Moody's Analytics, praised it. True, he is an old-style Keynesian, but he is among the most respected economists in the country, so he deserves a listen to. Among the benefits he sees from the American Jobs Act are:

Confidence would return to the public and therefore a stabilization of the economy would result.
Just under 2 million jobs would be created with the unemployment rate being cut by a percentage point.
GDP growth would be two percentage points higher next year.
The $450 billion price tag would be paid between $250 billion in tax cuts and $200 billion in spending increases.
If passed, another recession could be averted.

And it has little chance of passing by the Republican controlled House. Now that would be fine except that it is not clear what the Republicans are offering for immediate stimulation to employment. In fact, it seems that they don't like the word stimulation. We are being asked to encourage reduction of government, which will in and of itself release an explosion of private sector expansion and economic growth. So the private sector that seemed to play a rather large role in creating the Great Recession is going to lift us out of it because government is diminished? Really?

If there was a a credible plan to create jobs by Republicans aside from the usual cut taxes for the rich and reduce regulations I would be all ears. I want jobs to start growing as much as anyone and I really don't care which ideology produces them as long as they get created. But now that one of the two major political parties has been shanghaied by the Tea Party, who does not place job creation as their number one priority, we are not getting a full collaborative effort from all sides.

I'll give the Tea Party credit for sounding the alarm on the growing Federal debt, which if left unchecked would constitute major economic problems, including unemployment in just a few years. But what are they contributing to the debate of job growth now? Not much from what I can hear. They seem more committed to eliminating the President's job than to generating new ones for Americans. They are a one trick pony. Just reduce debt and morning in America will return. They seem to think that managing the Federal budget is no more sophisticated than balancing the family checkbook.

Perhaps most troubling is the Tea Party's reluctance to negotiate and compromise with those who have a different viewpoint. They are so confident in the righteousness of their position that working across the aisle is seen as weakness and capitulation. There is value in decisions made as a result of consensus. And now is a time for our leaders to work together to expand employment. The Tea Party strikes me as an impediment rather than as a serious partner.

I guess we'll never really know if Mark Zandi's ecomomic predictions will come true. Probably the most President Obama will get out of that speech is a reelection campaign position. And meanwhile the unemployment rate stays in the 9% neighborhood. Perhaps government really can't effect economic change and private capital (which the private sector isn't releasing) is all that matters. But don't we elect Federal leaders to solve national problems? And isn't that best done when collaboration occurs? This climate of polarization during a time of national crisis is very disheartening. We should demand something greater from those we elected.

The Number One Secret You Need To Know To Be Healthy

For 5,000 years, mankind has always looked from the Outside-In to be healed. Needles shooting serum in from the outside to prevent disease. Pills from the outside ingested to treat disease. Radiation, chemotherapy, all external factors used to treat cancer and other various ailments from the Outside-In.

Even vitamins, minerals, shark cartilage, and oils are all external factors that are used to treat disease from the Outside-In. Everything we do to treat diseases, symptoms, and conditions are all external to the body. And where has this gotten us?

Two trillion dollars (that's $2,000,000,000,000) are spent every year on medicine in this country. That's nearly 20% of our GDP! In 2000, according to the Journal of the American Medical Association, the US ranked 37 out of 40 industrialized nations in health care. In 2007, the OECD found more of the same and worse. The US spent $6500 per person on "health" care. Japan had the best ranking, a little over $2000 per person.

Now before we go any further, I do want to commend medicine for its value in emergencies. Accidents and saving people's lives that have abused their bodies so badly from poor lifestyle choices is where medicine shines and should be lauded. However, based on the above statistics, medicine has completely failed in getting people healthy.

Medicine is not alone in Outside-In treatment methods; another few hundred billion are spent on vitamins, fish oil, shark cartilage, and the next all-natural miracle cure. We've been so marketed to death, literally, that we now believe there is some miracle tree in the Amazon or some fish we can grind up that will cure cancer. And again, this is not to denounce nutrition.

I eat green stuff every day and a lot of it! Yet $2+ trillion later, we're still getting sicker and sicker. Even Bill Clinton said in 2004 that "For the first time in American history, our current generation of children could live shorter lives than their parents." Believing something outside the body can produce health inside the body has failed.

It's cliché but you can't solve a problem with the same thinking that created it. More money, more time, more "science", more "research" won't ever prove an untrue concept. Each and every Outside-In treatment method attempts to "cure" sickness and disease. At one point bloodletting was considered scientific! This incidentally took George Washington's life.

In the 1920s mercury was a panacea! What do we say today? We've warred on germs now since Pasteur and what have we done? As one virologist said, "we've advanced the microbiologic population by 400 years by trying to kill them off." Outside-In thinking has bankrupted our health, our pocketbooks, and our spirit.

Outside-In thinking assumes that all the wisdom of the universe that went into creating you from two ½ cells, was random, programmed for failure, and needs man's (un-)educated intelligence to heal. Can you ever think of a time where man has manipulated nature that has benefited the ecosystem in the long run? Outside-In thinking is destructive.

In 1895, D.D. Palmer discovered a new approach to health, so radical, that medicine, doctors, and even many chiropractors have denied its existence. Even to this day, those "in the know" In fact, some early practitioners in the early 1900s thru the 1950s who proclaimed this truth even went to jail for using it. And now you know for the first time, the answer to all your health issues is in you!

The secret to our health and healing is using an Inside-Out approach! Think about it, what heals? Only one thing: Life heals! Life comes from within. So before we believe medicine has a miracle cure, maybe we should ask if that "cure" can create life. Only life creates life. And the recreation of life by life, cell by cell, second by second, is what healing is! This gives everyone hope because now you are not reliant on a broken medical system to fix you! You are the secret to your health!

Let's look at this deductively. Assume a healthy man or woman. A healthy man must be made up of healthy parts. In man, the healthy parts are organs. Organs are made of tissues. Tissues are made of the most basic building block of the body, cells. And your body right now has 70,000,000,000,000 (trillion) cells. So if all the cells, the basic building blocks of the body, are healthy, we must deduce the tissues will be healthy, and then the organs must be healthy. The entire human being is then healthy.

Do you know your cells don't last? They die. Your body is constantly replacing itself with new cells. In fact every 60 seconds your body is manufacturing 3 billion new cells! It takes 14 months to remanufacture every organ in your body. And the entire body replaces itself every seven years! So if you've been married for 21 years, you're already on your third spouse!

In a diseased or cancerous organ, sick cells cannot be healed. They will die. And so will healthy cells. As one cell dies your body makes a new cell to replace it, via cell division. Let's take the heart for example. Your heart cells live for 90 days then they die. In fact they're dying right now as you read this. But don't worry about it. Your heart is making new heart cells that replace the old ones as they die out.

If those heart cells created are healthy cells, your heart is fine and you don't have to worry. But if a new heart cell is just as sick as the heart cell it replaced, the heart disease will go on and on forever till it kills you. But if a new healthy heart cell replaces the sick dying heart cell, your body will heal! This happens for red blood cells, the lungs, the liver, thyroid glands, the ovaries, and every other organ in the body!

So no doctor can heal you. No chiropractor. No vitamin, no medicine heals. Only your life cures sickness and disease by creating new cells to replace old ones, in spite of the poisonous medicines our bodies are bombarded with daily. This recreation of life daily is what we call healing. Healing can only come from the Inside-Out. It's as simple as that! Medicine has been a complete failure for thousands of years because it attempts to treat sick cells that are going to die anyway! Let them die! Let's just make sure the new cells replacing the dying cells are healthy!

Sick cells are the ones that produce symptoms. Symptoms are multifarious. Asthma, psoriasis, allergies, cancer, heart disease, etc. are all signs of sick cells. Treating sick cells that are going to die is a futile approach.

So if life is the only thing that heals, the only logical question to ask is not how to treat disease, but how to get more life! And this is where chiropractic comes into the picture. For your 70T cells to be organized properly, for them to produce the proper chemicals at the proper time in the proper amount, for them to divide properly, all the cells must be under control of a central computer. And the central computer of the body is the brain and the spinal cord. The brain and spinal cord was the first organ to develop in the womb because nature needed a way to control all the cells in the body!

Think of the brain as the power generator of the body. The brain sends power and messages to each and every cell. No power, no life. When the nervous system is interfered with, just slightly, it cuts down on life force flowing to the cells of the body. When those cells don't get a normal nerve supply, the cells begin to malfunction. The cells don't produce the right chemicals at the right time in the right amount. They don't divide properly or divide uncontrollably as in cancer.

Disease begins with this malfunction. When the cells malfunction, tissues malfunction. When tissues malfunction, organs malfunction. When organs malfunction, you have serious problems and most often this is the time you see symptoms. So this malfunction causes the organism to die slowly, before its time.

Disease is a process. It doesn't happen overnight. By the time cancer is detected, it has been there for 8-15 years. The first and most common symptom of a heart attack is death. There is no way a heart can go from perfect health to death overnight. All disease processes must first begin in this state of malfunction. Anytime nerve energy is not getting to the cells, malfunction begins.

The stresses of everyday life cause nerve interference. Chemicals in the air, water, medication. Physical traumas from car accidents or repeated poor posture. Emotional stresses from jobs, relationships, and financial pressures. Chiropractors call the nerve interference a subluxation.

A subluxation is when the bones of the spine move very slightly out of position and put pressure on the nerves, creating interference to nerve energy of the body. Imagine a garden hose at full blast. Bend it and it slows the water supply. The exact same thing is true in the brain and spinal cord. When the body is subluxated, it cuts down life energy flowing to the cells and chaos begins. And this is where chiropractic comes in.

Chiropractic works with the law of life. Chiropractors correct this interference. Chiropractic restores normal nerve supply to the body. The chiropractor uses an instrument to detect proper nerve flow. When the body is subluxated, the chiropractor gives a gentle adjustment by hands only to relieve pressure off the nervous system and restore normal nerve supply to the cells of the body. A series of gentle adjustments, over time, gets the pressure off the nerves, opens the life channels, and gradually restores nerve supply to the cells.

No pills, potions, surgeries, vitamins, fish oil, etc. will ever get the pressure off a nerve to allow healing. Over time, those sick cells will gradually be replaced with new healthy cells. Healthy cells create healthy tissues. Healthy tissues create healthy organs. Healthy organs make a healthy you. Healing is an Inside-Out job! As B.J. Palmer, the developer of chiropractic said, "It's as simple as that!"

Chiropractic can't heal nor can medicine. Only life heals. The only way to get more life is to get a better nerve supply. Turning up the power to 100% and letting your body create new life is the only way to heal. Only chiropractors can unlock the life force of the nervous system so you can be the best you can be in all your endeavors.

So how do you know if you're subluxated? How do you know if you have nerve interference that is sapping your lifespan, destroying your potential in all aspects of life? You don't. Unfortunately there are no symptoms associated with subluxation. Pain doesn't necessarily mean you're subluxated. I'm a chiropractor and I don't know if I'm subluxated. I drive to Los Angeles to get checked weekly by my mentor, Richard A. Gohl. It's that important.

Only a trained chiropractor can tell if you're subluxated. Don't wait till the life force has been cut down so much that your body is in a state of peril, and you're looking for a miracle. Get checked today. It's simple, painless, quick and affordable. As B.J. Palmer, DC said: "Nature needs no help, just no interference."

The School Math Curriculum - How Children Learn Maths - Number 2

Many parents worry that teaching math through play and the medium of Cuisenaire Rods will somehow confuse their child if the school he/she attends adopts a more formal or different approach. The fact is that it is universal math concepts that are being taught using the rods to provide children with a deeper understanding of the structure of number and our number system than would otherwise be possible. These concerns are of course irrelevant if you are homeschooling your children.

This approach teaches universal math concepts in a way that is totally child-centered. Children discover math is creative and fun. Concepts are discovered through play, games and open-ended challenges. Sometimes the hardest part for parents to accept is that 'maths is fun'. As a consequence children will always associate Math with a pleasurable, creative and constructive experience that they enjoyed.

This is often a world away from the memories of most of us.

This method is designed to complement the way children learn best and because of this children's learning is invariably accelerated compared to children exposed to more traditional and formal methods. Children are naturally kinesthetic/tactile learners and this reflects the dominant methodology which is truly multi-sensory as visual and auditory learners are also well provided for.

Math need no longer be a source of stress and conflict in the home.

Math related surveys consistently reveal that Math is probably the most hated subject on the school curriculum. One of the most iconic figures of the 20th Century - Barbie's - first words were '"Math is tough" following concerns raised in the US regarding the lack of math achievement by girls. The National Network For Child Care posed the question "What Can We Do?" in their newsletter. Back in 1982 a major report 'Mathematics Counts' was produced as result of a committee of enquiry into the teaching of Mathematics in schools in the UK under the chairmanship of Dr W H Cockroft. Some of the findings were alarming. When adults were interviewed the report observed how "... even an apparently simple and straightforward piece of mathematics could induce feelings of anxiety, helplessness, fear and even guilt..."

I question how much has changed.

A positive introduction to Math is absolutely crucial and what better way than through play? Just give the rods to a child of any age and he/she will do what they do best - play. Play is one of the most powerful motivational forces in the world. Learning should always be fun - structured, but fun. Most of our learning is non-conscious and incidental. For example children who use the rods regularly will 'know' their number bonds to 10 at a very early age without having to 'count' on their fingers.

Play is the harvesting of experience that will feed the growth of the child's understanding and further development. Play creates a positive learning environment. Directed activities can be introduced alongside Free Play to reflect children's particular interests. There are no limits to the possibilities. For example children can be asked to:

Create a star ship.

Build Cinderella's Palace

Produce a mosaic floor pattern etc.

It can be useful to keep a digital camera handy as children are often very reluctant to break up their creations. In fact it is a very good idea to treat their constructions as you did when they painted their first picture, as unique works of art. Photographs can also serve as a record of your child's progress. Play stimulates that most important attribute of the brain - our imagination.

Next Post: Incidental Learning

Before retirement Phil Rowlands was a primary school headteacher in the UK for 27 years. Screenwriting Technique Number 7 - Moral Storytelling

Oscar season '08 has produced a surprising development in the ecology of ideas that underlies our popular culture. Hollywood storytelling has long been dominated by a high-speed linear form that packs as many thrills into two hours as possible. The time span of the story is short. The impact on the audience is emotional. And the change in the hero is almost always psychological. When the moral element does show up, it is limited to a simple lesson no deeper than a platitude.

But recently a very different model of storytelling has appeared. These stories often frame a character's lifetime. Instead of going for a single emotional hit, the writers weave a detailed and complex moral accounting. And they're not content to show a single moral event, although that is often the catalyst for the bigger picture. These storytellers depict an entire moral universe that tells us whether human life has meaning or not.

The authors of these films, both screenwriters and novelists, pull from a wide array of strategies and techniques to express their visions. First to present its unique moral universe is 3:10 to Yuma, which is founded on the Western. The Western has always been a highly moral genre, serving as our justification for creating the American nation out of the harsh wilderness. Like the apotheosis of the form, Shane, 3:10 to Yuma equates living morally with being a man, and being a man with using a gun. Because the hero's son thinks he's a coward, he agrees to help take a criminal to prison.

The writers' main strategy is to increase the number of guns arrayed against the hero while at the same time decreasing his allies, until he is a man alone facing certain death. The question becomes: Is living according to your moral code worth dying for? For this man it is, even when his choice is undercut by the near certainty that the criminal will escape anyway. In the end, the man's son has immense respect for him. Unfortunately, he's dead. This kind of moral accounting is one of the main reasons the Western form is dead as well.

Atonement starts with a single immoral event that ripples out to destroy two lives. A girl knowingly accuses the wrong man of rape. The story then plays out by crosscutting how this decision affects the wronged man, the woman he loves, and the girl who made the accusation. The writers use the love story form to heighten the sense of tragedy. It is not just the way the immoral act hurts these individuals, but how it prevents the blossoming of a great love. This hurts the audience where they live.

But the key storytelling technique is the surprise of who is telling this story. Until the end, it has seemed to be primarily about the wronged man. But he didn't act immorally. He didn't make it impossible for two people to have rich, full lives, filled with love. It is the girl who told the lie. She is the one who must somehow fix the tear in the moral order that has lasted for sixty years. So the film concludes with her as an old woman, being interviewed for her novel called "Atonement". Now she will try to tell a story for good, to give the lovers, through fiction, the lives they never had. She will tell the story one more time, to apologize, even though there are some moral accounts in this life that can never be made right.

Kite Runner is another film whose storytelling strategy is founded on a single immoral act. But this time it's a sin of omission. A boy fails to act to save his best friend, and his act of cowardice so shames him that he compounds his sin with false accusation. By placing the story within the larger world of Afghanistan, the writers expand this single immoral event to a country and its history. An entire nation has been raped, first by the Soviets and then by the Taliban and its own twisted moral system.

Once again the writers use the technique of the storyteller to show the audience that moral decisions extend over a lifetime. After recalling his childhood sins, the hero, now a writer living comfortably in America, returns to Afghanistan to fix what he has done wrong. With some poetic justice, he is able to save his nephew. But again the ripples of his mistake are too devastating, and the damage left unattended for too long, for him to make things completely right.

Michael Clayton is ostensibly a thriller, one of Hollywood's favorite genres for selling its thrill-a-minute stories worldwide. But writer Tony Gilroy uses the form as a vehicle for much bigger cargo. This is corporate America, the world we all live in, and it has its moral ledger sheet hidden beneath the bottom line. Instead of the good but innocent character under constant assault, as in normal thrillers, hero Michael Clayton is a morally corrupt bagman for the establishment. He's a "janitor" lawyer, but his fix-it jobs only sweep the immorality under the rug. Instead of losing his soul through a single immoral act, he has fallen into the moral red by the slow wearing-down process of daily life. As he tells a fellow lawyer, "I'm not the guy you kill. I'm the guy you buy off."

One of the marks of great writing is Gilroy's technique of fleshing out a complete moral universe through the minor characters. As the main case plays out, it becomes clear that all the characters have some moral flaw at work that is crippling them. Everyone's life is way out of balance. But the mantra they all repeat to themselves is the moral justification found in any organization: "I'm just doing my job."

The depiction of a moral universe in film reaches its apex, or nadir, in No Country for Old Men. The Coen brothers have always given their stories a philosophical underpinning. And Cormac McCarthy is no stranger to a bleak moral landscape. But this is the moral universe of cold interstellar space. The writers ground their story in the crime genre, particularly the criminal-as-hero form that stretches as far back as Raskolnikov in Crime and Punishment. So instead of making the tough but decent sheriff the hero, or even the hapless loser who finds the mob's money, the writers choose the cold avenger to drive their story.

The "Cleaner" is found in countless movies. His job is to bring back the money and kill the guy who took it. Period. But this Cleaner is superclean. Every person in the world, it seems, is in his ledger book, and everyone is to blame. The slightest opposition merits death. In his mind the book has already been written. The flip of a coin decides. The old sheriff has seen killers before, and brought a few of them to justice. But this killer is from another world, beyond Spartan, where the slightest transgression merits the ultimate payment. And it unnerves him. This is no country for old men, or young women either.

I don't know why these stories of grand moral accounting have all appeared in movie theaters at around the same time. It may be nothing more than a fluke of production. Or it may be a reaction to a time when America's position as the prime moral compass in the world has been shaken, if not shattered, by war and torture. Or it may simply be a number of fine storytellers all deciding to make an aesthetic and moral decision of their own. That stories aren't just about jolting and thrilling and then soothing an audience. Stories are the primary way we give meaning to our lives, but only when they show individuals making hard decisions with effects that can last a lifetime.

What is the Most Important Economic Number at Election Time?

"It's the economy stupid" was the mantra of the first presidential election in the 90's. Only the threat of war could trump the economy as the most important issue at election time. Abortion, gay rights, and other social issues will never carry the weight of the economy. It will be bigger than ever this fall, but I bet you can't guess the most important number.

The Tea Party and others are protesting bigger government and the growing national debt. The cost of healthcare and other huge entitlements are causing anger across America. The confusing unemployment numbers continue to hound all politicians. But there is one number that affects all Americans and may be more of a factor in the fall election than any other.

The most dominant water cooler topic is the latest price of a gallon of gas. Every few days democrats, republicans, independents, the employed, the unemployed, the poor, and everyone else stop at the local station to fill their tanks. I take note of the number even on days I don't need to stop. The people who hate to talk politics, know this number well. The only people oblivious to the power of the price of gasoline - politicians.

The BP oil spill has revealed the true colors of most politicians. They are quick to ban drilling and preach the environmental message. They claim the evil oil companies don't want us to run our cars on algae or heat our homes with recycled plastics. Most agree with Bush that we are "addicted to oil". I hate that comment. We can't be addicted to oil any more than we can be addicted to water. It is essential for life!

Whether we like it or not, oil is to our economy what water is to the human body. It may not be possible to switch to "alternative fuels". Besides transportation, oil is central to all manufacturing and many everyday products like plastics and rubber.

The worst moment in our economic recession was when gas topped $4 per gallon. People reduced driving and business suffered. My neighbors complained more about the price of gas than anything else going on at the time. Environmentalists boldly say they want higher gas prices so we will use less. That approach would certainly work to reduce our consumption, but destroy the economy in the process.

The oil spill reminds me just how much oil is still out there. If you want to grow the economy, produce more oil. In the meantime, let the free market take care of producing alternative fuels. The American people would pay top dollar for a clean energy choice and companies would line up to collect the profits. Until then, fossil fuels are our lifeline - "drill, baby, drill".

Number of Charter Schools Increasing Over Traditional Tampa Schools

In 1996, then governor Jeb Bush co-founded the first charter school within the state of Florida, when most educators across the nation thought of charter schools as nothing more than a fad. Now, there are more than 350 charter schools within the state of Florida; there are 38 across the Tampa Bay area with several in the Tampa Schools area -- private and public. The movement has mushroomed across Florida with charter school enrollment expected to top 100,000 students this year.

Yet, if you ask the average adult on the street, most have no idea what a charter school is. Though many charter schools are private businesses that operate under the guidelines of the state school board, many were traditional schools converted to public charter schools and still under the direction and control of the school districts, such as the Tampa schools.

Charter schools are given more flexibility from many of the regulations that apply to the traditional Tampa schools in exchange for greater accountability. Charter schools can be as different as day and night in their mission, vision for their students, approaches to curriculum and teaching methods, and administrative structures, as well as their overall philosophy.

Each charter within the Tampa schools area must prove that their students are continuously improving academically from year to year. If they fail (indicated by student test scores on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT)), they are closed.

Any individual or business that wishes to create a charter school can. Successful new approaches to education by some charter schools are copied by others. The primary philosophy of these schools, however, is that one curriculum and one way of doing things is not correct for every student.

The success of the charter schools within the Tampa schools' area has forced the Tampa schools' leadership and educators to re-evaluate their traditional schools, giving students and parents more educational choices from which to choose.

Clearly no longer just a fad, the Tampa schools lose many students (and the funding that goes with each student) to charter schools each year, and the numbers are on the increase. The Tampa schools now have 12 public charter schools converted from their traditional schools. Ten are lower grade levels and two are secondary. A few have middle school grades included.

Charter schools within the Tampa schools' area, as well as across the nation, continue to produce mixed results. Since their inception in Florida, 78 have closed, and nearly 30 percent were in the red financially a few years ago. Charters traditionally average 11 percent less funding per student, and their students generally score slightly lower on the FCAT, though they are improving.

Most charters within the Tampa schools' area have a greater proportion of minority students than the traditional schools. Many are located within the inner city communities, where all schools face their biggest challenges.

Top Manufacturing Country: The USA Is Still The Number One Manufacturing Country On Earth, By Far!

What a shock, isn't it?

"All the manufacturing jobs are going overseas" is the common cry. The truth is, manufacturing is growing in the USA. There is some confusion in this. It might pay to know what you're talking about. In a few minutes you'll have a much more clear picture of global manufacturing.

The USA currently produces about 22% of all manufactured goods on the planet. The USA reached it's all-time manufacturing peak as expressed as a percentage of world production in 2006!

The USA reached a peak dollar volume of manufacturing, and peak profits in (you guessed it) 2006.
The USA's manufacturing output is about 2.5 China's output.
In world ranking for size of economy, the USA is number one, Japan is a distant second, and China is third.

So, what is all the scary talk about?

Well, when expressed as a percentage of our over-all economy, manufacturing is shrinking. In other words, after World War ll about 28% of OUR economy was manufacturing. That percentage is now about 11% and falling.

And we are losing manufacturing jobs at a fast rate. Part of this is because we are the most efficient workers on earth! What that mean is, that for every hour an American worker works, more goods or services are produced than by any workers from any other country on earth. Why? Because we are hard workers and driven people, and we apply technology which allows one person to do the work of many.

Why are we driven?

Think about it: The USA was originally populated by immigrants from around the globe, and we still allow huge immigration numbers. What kind of people give up their family history and everything they are comfortable with to travel thousands of miles to a completely strange land? I'll tell who does this: people with guts, gumption, energy, and the entrepreneurial spirit, that's who! The meek and mild mannered stayed home.

What you end up with is a country full of winners.

Combine this with freedom and limited government, and you have the makings of a world-leading nation. America is far from "over." And manufacturing in America is far from over. For example, pipe welding is in high demand, yet the USA is short about 200,000 welders. Only about 5% of all welders can weld pipe. We are once again building nuclear plants, pipe lines, and all sorts of projects that require welding here, in America. Pipe welders typically earn between $60,000 and $100,000.

What should you do now?

"The $100K Welder" is about YOU learning to weld pipe in 8 weeks or less, even if you have never welded before! Check it out: http://100kwelder.com

Social Media: Why the Number of Followers Matter

Last week, we talked about the fact that having great numbers with your social media outreach on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn was not as important as what you did with them. My point was that having good numbers alone was not the goal in and of itself, that you needed to serve those followers with great information so they have a reason to continue following you.

This week, I want to go back and focus on the importance of the numbers, because I feel I may have done that point a bit of a disservice. You see, the numbers of followers you garner will be the driver of your efforts and provide an instant way of establishing your credibility with audiences who may not have ever heard of you.

The principle is simple, really. The soul of public relations is the power to enhance someone's credibility with their core audiences. Whether that audience consists of potential customers, readers or clients, they all need to see you as a credible expert in your area. If they don't, you'll never be able to move past the word "potential."

The toughest question to answer when someone is introduced to your work is, "Who are you?" If they don't know your name or your reputation, they need to find out something about you up front that is either compelling or unique. So if the answer to that question isn't something like, "He's the guy who invented the rotary engine (that was Felix Wankel in 1957, by the way)," then you need something else to establish your credibility.

Now if you have a strong following, people don't necessarily need to know about you or your expertise. All they need to do is click on one of your profiles to see you have 10,000 or 20,000 followers, and it instantly communicates that you are an expert and that what you have to offer has value.

Moreover, the media is actually starting to use the social media contacts of the guests they book to promote their shows. Recently, we booked a client on a national TV show and the producer emailed back and asked us if the guest could promote his upcoming appearance on his Twitter and Facebook accounts. This particular client didn't have a Twitter account and his Facebook account is grossly under-serviced. However, my campaign manager did comment that I had 55,000-plus followers across all my accounts and that I'd be happy to put out the word. The producer was very happy and will now be more inclined to give consideration to all the guests we pitch him, because he knows we can help promote our guest appearances. In the fight for ratings, sometimes a few thousand viewers can make the difference between a show winning its slot or losing to a competitor, so media outlets are doing everything they can to boost ratings. If you're able to help them with that, and you have a sizeable social media following that instantly establishes your credibility, you'll be an imminently more attractive guest.

The most important thing to remember is that social media is not just a "fun" thing to do. This is serious business and you want to approach potential followers with strong, expert advice and education. Many people don't put a lot of thought into who they decide to follow, so if you can provide a modicum of substance in your social media dealings - as I detailed last week - then you will find it easy to add followers on a regular basis.

And, having a large number of followers can be like gold for you and your business, because it can make the difference between someone encountering your name online and saying, "Never heard of him," or "Never heard of him, but 20,000 other people have, so he must be good."

Duck Hunting and Weather

The only downside about duck hunting is that you have to wait for a bout of bad weather to catch some good game. The success of your hunt is largely dependant on the weather. Good weather means fewer ducks and a bad hunting experience. On the contrary, bad weather means many ducks and a great hunting experience.

If the climate is bad for a prolonged period of time, you can enjoy a very successful duck-hunting experience. Experienced hunters claim that a stormy weather accompanied by harsh and cold winds means that it is the right time to bring out your duck-hunting equipment. On the contrary, warm, pleasant weather means that it is wrong time to go duck hunting.

Best Duck Hunting Spots

As per the available information, the Tennessee River Valley in North Alabama is an excellent spot for hunting waterfowl, including duck. This is the best spot for duck hunting in Alabama because it is an agricultural zone that naturally produces a lot of milfoil. In addition, food and water is available in plenty. The region features a number of backwaters, and the river itself is a home for the birds. Some of the great game birds that arrive from the northern regions are scaups, coots, and mallards.

The Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge, situated near Decatur in Alabama, is a sanctuary not only for ducks, but also other birds. Every winter, the refuge receives around 60,000 migrating ducks, which spend the season feeding on crops and escaping from hunters. Of course, hunting is not allowed in the premises of the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge; however, enthusiastic hunters do a lot of heavy hunting in the regions around it.

The greatest spot for duck hunting in Alabama is the Swan Creek WMA, a short distance from the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge. It is public property and comprises large tracts for duck hunting.

Can Nollywood Clinch the Number One Spot in Moviedom?

What was the answer that popped up in your mind when you read the title of this piece? was it aligned with the aforementioned negative recurring anti-progression responses or was it a deep sigh embedded in a few minutes of silent thoughtful projection in to the future. You traveled through time and space, saw the possibility of dealing with the odds that have stood daringly in the face of the Industry's advancement, and the injection of large doses of entertainment based, tested and proven multi-progression vitamins formula, discovered from product of years of research in to the Industry, then you declare that it's possible!.

Whichever of the schools of thought you opt for, the truth still remains that Nollywood certainly has a lot of catching up to do in terms of "quality" and not quantity productions. Does Nollywood have a dream of soaring its flag above others, putting Africa in the forefront of movie productions in the world? It is however vital, imperative, germane to understand why Hollywood and Bollywood have a great edge over Nollywood.

It is on record that the first feature film under the Hollywood ambit was made in 1914 titled the "Squaw man", ironically the significant year in the annals of our historical sojourn when the Northern and southern protectorates were amalgamated by Lord Lugard to birth the great nation "Nigeria".

Over the years Hollywood has metamorphosed into a Multi billion dollar industry, arising mainly from well defined "functioning" structures on ground. The genres of movies on offer have blossomed from the usual stereotyped classes to an infusion of more liberal ones such as action, comedy, romance, thriller, sci-fiction, violence, adventure, crime, suspense, drama, family, musical, horror, fantasy, animation, mystery, film-noir. There's certainly something for everyone, even children can indulge themselves in beautifully scripted and well executed animation flicks, re-living the numerous fairy tales that were once held bound within the pages of story books. Talking animals in flicks, a product of creativity e.g Cats and Dogs, Racing Stripes, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe, have given viewers a memorable viewing experience.

Big players in the Industry own studios with 'back lot' where movies are also shot, and use the synergies springing from their ownership of certain print and electronic media to consolidate on their financial gains. Theatrical releases are considered sacred and apt, first en route to a box office hit with constant trailers having been regularly aired prior to the opening, with over 30,000 screens owned by functional theater chains spread across USA. Movie goers eager to see the hyped movies throng to the theaters to quench their movie thirst. The action translates in to millions of dollars for the movie makers, and also thanks to the well structured movie distribution system that ensures the legally hitch free access to these flicks.

The movies are also viewed in other continents, distributed to English speaking countries, dubbed with voice over by actors in the non-English speaking countries or simply subtitled. Access to these movies for one's viewing pleasure at home, months after the theatrical experience, comes through the purchase of DVDs, renting of same, and the legal broadcast of the movie on TV stations. Low budget movies are not left out of the picture as the DVDs are directly released to the public after production. Financial empowerment for making high budget films is sourced from banks, companies and wealthy investors who rely majorly on the track record of the producers, directors and cast, especially the popularity of those saddled with the responsibility of taking the lead roles.

Perhaps, what Hollywood has going for it, is the blend of spiced up advanced technology with a well crafted story, great cast resulting in A- rated quality movies. The modern high powered use of "CGI" (computer generated imagery to create unimaginable superior special effects), visual effects, lovely cinematography, unbelievable stunts and scenes, use of 3D technology, clear audio void of sound interference and high quality output have certainly placed them well ahead of the pack. Top rated actors are highly paid and smile to the banks with millions of dollars. The presence of the various well structured organizations on ground such as Writers Guild of America, Motion Pictures Editors Guild, Motion Picture Producers and Distribution of America, Motion Picture Sound Editors, Motion Picture Photographers Association, National Organization of Theater Owners, America Cinema Editors, America Society of Cinematographers, Casting Society of America, Directors Guild of America, Producers Guild of America, have aided their dominance, and fostered unity amongst members of the same team.

It can take months, and even years, for proper planning, finance sourcing, and all the pre to post production stages of film production to be well executed, especially with the looming consequences that could befall a shambolic production. Hollywood doesn't shoot movies in twelve days or less like their Nollywood counterpart.

The first movie in India was shown on July 7th 1896, but its Industry was birthed on May 3rd 1913, with "Raji Harischandra", a silent feature film by Dadasaheb Phalke. Alam Ara broke the silent movie jinx in 1931 and with legends such as Dharmendra Singh Deol, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini and a crop of fine actors including Jeetendra, the 60's -80's witnessed hits which reigned such as Sholay, Amar Akbar Anthony, Johnny Mera Naam, Seta Aur Geeta, The Burning Train, Bobby, Kabhi Kabhi, Dharamveer, amongst others. They currently operate in the shadows of Hollywood in Nigeria.

Bollywood's popularity has continued to soar higher, opening new market and doors of opportunities for it, which has translated into better quality productions causing a break from the usual stereo typed marriage norm stories, and boasting of good cinematography. Besides, the opening up of more Theaters in their country has enabled Box office hits to be recorded. A blend of Western dance styles with tech beats have been infused in to their dance and millions of dollars (not rupee) are spent in making high budget films sourced from large studios and private distributors.

The realization and drive to be at par with their Hollywood counterpart in terms of special effects have seen experts in the requisite field from the USA being hired to actualize such, which has helped in opening up a wider range of genre of movies to be made. Shooting in other parts of the world such as Europe and other areas seems to be a norm making waves amongst the movie makers there, especially with the Box office hits recorded from shooting movies in that terrain.

Nollywood's story is not unfamiliar to the Nigerian people, having sprouted its shoots in 1992, with the acclaimed movie "Living in Bondage". However we ought not to forget that Nigerian films shot on celluloid had been in existence prior to this period. In one of my articles titled "Nollywood: Origin and Unresolved problems", i painstakingly gave a detailed account of how the Nigerian movie industry evolved from the Colonial era, through the "Golden years" into the Nollywood era and the many problems plaguing the Industry.

Financial and distribution problems, re-cycling of old faces, watershed plots, simulacrum of Hollywood movies, low audio and visual quality production, banal stories, high predictability rates, ear sore sound tracks, narrow genre of movies to choose from, and the conspicuous absence of grand special and visual effects, piracy, are some of the problems the Industry has been battling with to overcome.

A lot has to be done to restore the confidence of Nigerians in the Industry. We could go on and on, whine and complain about the set backs, inadequacies the industry faces, though solutions have been proffered by stakeholders and friends of Nollywood time and again. The question still remains whether practical steps have been taken to implement the well thought out strategies that would rectify the problems, fill the lacuna and set Nollywood on the right path to Glory?

Nollywood still maintains a large percentage of their shibbolethian ideologies and has sailed on the High seas for too long, constantly being attacked by unrelenting pirates now and again. It's time the Industry puts its house in order, disposes of prosaic movies and alters its course ably guided by the compass of cutting edge technology. There are new heights to attain, so Nollywood where do you stand?

So long... auggiepo@yahoo.com

Number of State Foreclosures on the Rise With No Respite in Sight for Any Particular Area

With the rates of state foreclosure rising at an unprecedented pace in the U.S., there seems to be no relief whatsoever for any particular city. There has been a rise in the number of properties under foreclosure in Sioux Falls, South Dakota as compared to the 236 number of foreclosing properties in 2009.

While, due to an influx of bank induced foreclosures which includes Wells Fargo foreclosures, most American cities suffer, the real estate market of South Dakota has remained stable. But due to recession the rates of foreclosure has increased in the year 2010, mostly in the metro areas.

In July there are as many as 170 foreclosed properties in Sioux Falls in comparison to the record of 128 noted during the same month in 2009. Wachovia and other banks are starting up a pile of foreclosing procedures in the city which is badly recession-hit. The state was affected by the downturn of the economy at around late 2008, despite the fact that it had started in 2007.

The rates of bank foreclosures rose further in the state during the month of August as every one in 2126 homes got a foreclosing notice. In the terms of the rates of foreclosure in August, South Dakota has been ranked 43rd in the list of other U.S. states.

Despite the rise of the number of foreclosures in the state during the last few months, state records show that compared to states like California, Arizona and Florida, South Dakota is in a fairly good shape. Even the national record is worse than it since in every 381 households, one is in foreclosure.

The fact worrying the local analysts the most is the fact that the vast numbers of foreclosures are harming the income levels of all households, even those who earn a six-figure salary. According to the predictions of the property experts, households with higher incomes will be plagued with more foreclosures, leading to doubling of the total number of last year's number in 2010.

According to the data produced by the local housing agencies, the highest percentage in foreclosing properties in the state was recorded by the southwest Sioux Falls in July when there were as many as 69 homes in different phases of foreclosure. When compared to last year' number which was 26, this number appears considerably higher.

Though South Dakota will not be as badly hit as the other states, the market analysts expect a rise in number of foreclosed homes as the rise in the number of foreclosures in the entire nation continues.
