Laughter is the best medicine for the nation's drivers according to a new survey which has revealed that three out of every four people in the UK laugh out loud or sing at the top of their voices while driving.
It is believed laughing and singing can reduce accident rates too. Happy motorists are calmer and more rational and less likely to become part of the one in six who are involved in a confrontation with other drivers. Staying accident free will reduce car insurance premiums too - but its vital drivers keep their focus on the road.
Laughter produces endorphins which can assist drivers in stressful situations - such as when dealing with bad motorists or stuck in traffic jams. However, drivers must keep their attention on the road and not allow themselves to become too distracted by the radio.
The survey also revealed the happiest drivers in the UK - Swansea proving the most popular place for singing and laughing with 86 per cent enjoying life behind the wheel. By comparison, Aberystwyth sees only 61 per cent take part in such driving merriment.
Staying happy is important when steering clear of accidents and therefore reducing the number of car insurance claims. Remember that building up a no-claims bonus and staying conviction free will earn cheaper car insurance premiums.
If you are an angry motorist then do all you can to curb your temper while driving. If other motorists annoy you, open a window for some fresh air, pull over and take a break, or listen to some relaxing music.
By contrast, if you're the victim of an angry motorist check your car insurance Some insurers offer compensation and counselling to road rage victims as well as legal protection so shop around to find cheap car insurance with the cover you need.
