Montana has long been known for big blue skies, gorgeous mountains, abundant wildlife and spectacular national parks. As the home of both Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park, Montana is a favorite tourist location for visitors from around the world. Now Montana is also becoming a destination spot for weddings, corporate conferences and a wide variety outdoor adventure vacations.

In addition, Montana is rapidly becoming a home for artists and entrepreneurs drawn to its pristine environment and wide-open spaces. Montana residents are known for friendly personalities and a strong work ethic. The prestige of Made in Montana products is growing along with the state's reputation as the "last, best place".

Montana residents have always been proud of their unique western heritage and the independent lifestyle of their sparsely populated rural state. As early as 1916, the concept of promoting products as Made in Montana was taking hold. Citizens wanted to know what products were being produced by their fellow Montanans and wanted to be able to promote their products outside of the state and to the growing number of tourists and visitors.

The modern Made in Montana program was established in 1984. The mission of the Made in Montana program is to assist Montana's entrepreneurs who are creating, making or growing value-added products. Value-added means Montana residents who make a finished product that has been created, made, produced or enhanced in Montana resulting in fifty percent or more added value.

Businesses who wish to have their products officially designated as Made in Montana must apply to the state for approval. Once approved, the businesses have the right to display Made in Montana labels and logos on their products and promotional materials.

When you are traveling in the west and looking for authentic souvenirs, ask for Made in Montana products to bring home to friends and family!
