Is it Time For a New National Emblem?

Perhaps the "eagle has landed" with regard to our dependency on government programs and handouts.  The eagle could now be replaced by an emaciated sow, a once robust creature, now emaciated from lack of nourishment and the constant demands of her piglets.

When pigs fly...

Congressional leaders could not conceive that the bald eagle, officially adopted as our national emblem in 1787,  may someday be replaced by a sow as a more accurate reflection of the state of our nation.

This vision first put forth by Rush Limbaugh in his 1993 book "The Way Things Ought To Be".  ...The poor in this country are the biggest piglets at the mother pig and her nipples. The poor feed off the largesse of this government and they give nothing back... over half the population receives some kind of government check... We've been encouraging poverty by subsidizing the increasing numbers of the poor. And Democrats love giving money away to the poor because it makes them dependent upon the Democrats and helps to ensure their reelection...

 A Trend Toward Socialism...

Yet we do not need anti-socialist rhetoric or demonstrations rather a renewed endorsement of a system that has produced wealth greater than any nation on earth.

With government giveaway programs, individuals are often hurt far more than they are helped. The recipients become dependent on the government and their dignity is destroyed. Is it compassionate to enslave more and more people by making them a part of the government dependency cycle?  Compassion should be measured by how many people no longer need it. Helping people to become self-sufficient is much more compassionate than drugging them with the narcotic of welfare.

A proposed "New Symbol" should be a reminder of what we could become without a focus on re-establishing ourselves as a country of individuals who thrive on being self-sufficient.
